Hi, I need a Mind Map software for building a network of people that I know. Can you suggest me something FOSS please?

FreePlane is the one you want.
FreeMind is the first java based free one, but appears abandoned. FreePlane has many features like templates and themes, plus the ability to use templates to create custom input types.
I used Freeplane in the past and was quite happy with it (altough the UI is a bit ugly). Frequent updates too. Can recommend.

To be fair, the only one I used in the past was FreeMind for personal notes. I can’t say if it is truly better, just providing you some FOSS software. I also found this one, which I never heard before: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vym_(software)
I use the Mindmark plug-in for Logseq most of the time. I have used and liked FreeMind in the past.
This seems realy good, I can expand linking also file and papers. I think that I’ll try it. Thanks very much
Likewise the graph view for obsidian (not foss) or foam (extension for vscode/vscodium) . The graph view is perhaps less useful than the traditional mind map (great if you just want to see connections though) but overall these options are much more powerful
Dumb question: what’s a mind map? i’ve heard of it, and seen some examples, but still have no real idea what one is for.
It’s a visual tool to explore and develop ideas by organizing them in a hierarchical way. It works by “associating” key words with different other groups of key words. It’s a classic strategy, we used it in school to explore new topics together in class.

Is a schema whwre you connect information thru a logical way. You usually use for studing and connecting the concepts. I’ll use it for connecting the professors and universities that I know
It became a hot thing a decade ago. Some people love it. Frankly I prefer just making an outline though I suppose there are some more options with mind mapping in terms of relationships.
Obsidian. I’m using canvas. Idk if it’s the same thing you’re looking for but it’s what I’m using for PKM.
I love Obsidian and I use it myself but it isn’t open source but it’s completely local and has a wide array of plugins by the awesome community.
Wdym by you use canvas?
Obsidian is not FOSS. A better alternative would be Emacs’ org-mode and the org-brain plugin.
I use Draw.io (i think they are diagrams.net now). It’s FOSS, there is an desktop version which works great for me.

If you are looking for an app, Freeplane seems old, but is still a pretty good app.
Minder is a great option if you are on Linux (it is built specifically with elementary OS design guidelines in mind). The only issue is that it is not cross-platform - no client for Windows/macOS/mobile OS’.
