Is Jerboa for Lemmy crashing for anyone else?
I’ve been using Jerboa for Lemmy for my Beehaw account since the Migration. At first it worked fine. Then I started getting an error message about the version of Lemmy being used on the instance. But for the last couple of days it has been crashing immediately on opening:
Is anyone else having this problem? Can anyone recommend an alternative app?
Thanks!
Stanislav N. aka pztrn ( @pztrn@bin.pztrn.online ) English29•2 years agoSwitched to liftoff and continue enjoying fediverse.
But I’m not on beehaw.
Dane ( @TheLastOfHisName@beehaw.org ) English5•2 years agoI switched to Liftoff from Jerboa, and am enjoying the Liftoff experience thus far. Works with Beehaw just fine.
Autumn ( @Autumnal@beehaw.org ) English5•2 years agoLiftoff is great! Thanks for commenting about it. I was really frustrated with Jerboa for not even allowing me to log in to Beehaw, and Connect’s really bad interface that makes it hard to read anything.
MooMix ( @MooMix@beehaw.org ) English1•2 years agoAwesome! I was looking for a good client. Tried it and it’s working great. Thanks for the suggestion!
PurpleReign ( @PurpleReign@beehaw.org ) English5•2 years agoI’m on Beehaw and can confirm that Liftoff is already miles ahead of Jerboa.
Jimbob0i0 ( @Jimbob0i0@beehaw.org ) English2•2 years agoTrying connect for lemmy at the moment… but I’ll add that to my list until I settle on my preferred mobile experience… thanks!
can ( @can@beehaw.org ) English1•2 years agoAlso consider trying wefwef for an alternative webapp experience.
Nick B. ( @nickb333@beehaw.org ) English1•2 years agoThanks for the recommendation. Have just installed and connected back to Beehaw.

Wow… It’s awesome 😎, thank you…
@BobQuasit @technology can ( @can@beehaw.org ) English3•2 years ago kanathan ( @kanathan@beehaw.org ) English2•2 years agoOh, nice! Jerboa and Connect were both OK, but each were missing a few features that I wanted. I’m really liking Liftoff so far.
mustyOrange ( @mustyOrange@beehaw.org ) English2•2 years agoLiftoff feels great. If this keeps getting features, I dont see myself switching.
Dev is killing it
hoshikarakitaridia ( @hoshikarakitaridia@lemmy.fmhy.ml ) English1•2 years agoSwitched to listoff which also didn’t work for some reason, then to connect. I also tried thunder, which works as well.
can ( @can@beehaw.org ) English3•2 years agoLiftoff is working for me and even let’s me seemlessly browse my beehaw and sh.itjust.works acct. If I’m on a beehaw post (like this) is automatically let’s me comment under my account here.
Really nice for when you are part of multiple communities.
RiddleMeWhy ( @RiddleMeWhy@beehaw.org ) English2•2 years agoA major benefit of liftoff to me is that it takes me to linked communities in app, instead of in browser like Jerboa. Makes it easier to subscribe to new communities that people share in comments
Stanislav N. aka pztrn ( @pztrn@bin.pztrn.online ) English1•2 years agoIDK, it works for me from the very first start.
mrmanager ( @mrmanager@lemmy.today ) 15•2 years agoYup Jerboa became very unstable so I switched to Connect for Lemmy. Smooth ride now. :)
Kuro ( @kuro_neko@lemmy.ca ) 9•2 years agoGlad you’re enjoying Connect!
PurpleTentacle ( @PurpleTentacle@beehaw.org ) 4•2 years agoI’m enjoying it, too. The only thing that annoys me is how hard/hidden it is to subscribe to communities.
When I’m seeing an interesting community under top of interesting content from a community I might be interested in, it’s such a chore to find a subscribe button.
Sharkapotamus ( @Sharkapotamus@beehaw.org ) 1•2 years agoSecond this - I had the same issue so switched to Connect and it’s working great. Fairly similar UI and I’ll probably just stick with it now.
grumbul ( @grumbul@beehaw.org ) 10•2 years agoJerboa started crashing for me around the time they did an update that required a newer lemmy version. I’ve been using Liftoff and that’s working pretty well so far. I’m trying to stay open to different apps because they’re all pretty new and none that I’ve tried have been exactly what I’m looking for yet.
ookees ( @ookees@beehaw.org ) 1•2 years agoThanks. Just installed Liftoff. Working well so far.
nanometre ( @nanometre@beehaw.org ) 9•2 years agoYep, I’m using wefwef.app now, which is also very nice. Still have Jerboa installed for when it’ll be compatible with beehaw again.
0xCAFe ( @0xCAFE@feddit.de ) 8•2 years agoDeleting storage and cache (both) worked for me.
leds ( @leds@feddit.dk ) 1•2 years agoYes thanks that worked!
raijian ( @raijian@beehaw.org ) 1•2 years agoThanks, I tried cache only but yep required storage too.
flatbield ( @furrowsofar@beehaw.org ) 8•2 years agoYes. I switched to Connect for Lemmy on Google Play for now. That app seems to work fine. Not sure it is FOSS though. Seemed the most popular too other than Jerboa.
String ( @StringPotatoTheory@beehaw.org ) 7•2 years agoThe most recent jerboa version doesn’t work with lemmy version 17 anymore (which beehaw is on). I had the error and crash happen too. You could download a previous version off their github and it should work with v17 instances (but probably not v18).
But I’d recommend liftoff, it was recently added to the play store and it’s actively being worked on! It’s the app I use and I’ve been enjoying it so far.
jherazob ( @jherazob@beehaw.org ) English6•2 years agoDid they HAVE to go with that post for the Liftoff screenshots? 😂
Edit: They even used it inside the app as a preview on the Post Style prefs! It’s very much deliberate! 😂
marx2k ( @marx2k@beehaw.org ) English5•2 years ago:(
0x4E4F ( @0x4E4F@lemmy.fmhy.ml ) English5•2 years agoOMG, just noticed 🤣🤣🤣.
jherazob ( @jherazob@beehaw.org ) English3•2 years agoHello from Liftoff! Seems to work well so far
ono ( @ono@lemmy.ca ) 7•2 years agoF-Droid has previous versions, in case anyone needs to downgrade.
godless ( @godless@latte.isnot.coffee ) 6•2 years agoYep. Every update breaks something new, and they never fix the old issues. I’ve now switched over to Liftoff, until Sync becomes available. From that point onward I won’t be needing anything else.
lowleveldata ( @lowleveldata@programming.dev ) 1•2 years ago0.36 was shit but 0.37 is actually fine now
godless ( @godless@latte.isnot.coffee ) 3•2 years ago0.36 worked fine for me, 0.37 doesn’t even start. Immediate crash on open.
can ( @can@beehaw.org ) 1•2 years agoBecause your instance isn’t up to date.

balls_expert ( @balls_expert@lemmy.blahaj.zone ) 5•2 years agoYep crashes upon opening it today
cavemeat ( @cavemeat@beehaw.org ) 5•2 years agoI just switched to thunder, and so far its working much better.
red ( @red@feddit.de ) 4•2 years agoWorked fine until yesterday evening. This morning (i.e. now) it instantly crashes
can ( @can@beehaw.org ) 4•2 years agoThe latest version of Jerboa is crashing on instances that haven’t updated to v0.18
This will likely be fixed but there’s many alternatives now anyway.
AndrewOz ( @AndrewOz@beehaw.org ) 2•2 years agoI have switched from Jerboa to Connect. Works well straight out of the box.
AndrasKrigare ( @AndrasKrigare@beehaw.org ) 4•2 years agoAs @dark_stang@beehaw.org mentioned, the progressive web app works really well. To use it, from any major browser on your phone, open up the options menu and click “install app” or “add to phone.” It’ll add an “app” to your phone which is actually a slimmed down version of your browser with the address bar and menus and whatnot removed.
can ( @can@beehaw.org ) 2•2 years agoThere’s also an appolo-like alternative webapp.
ryanlovescooljeans ( @ryanlovescooljeans@beehaw.org ) 2•2 years agoThis is what I just did since last night’s Jerboa update means it can’t even launch anymore. And while I like Jerboa, this slimmed down web app version of Lemmy is perfect and kind of all I need.
HeyLow 🏳️⚧️ ( @HeyLow@lemmy.blahaj.zone ) 4•2 years agoHaven’t had any issues with crashing on Jerboa 0.0.34 on Android 13
