Is Jerboa for Lemmy crashing for anyone else?
I’ve been using Jerboa for Lemmy for my Beehaw account since the Migration. At first it worked fine. Then I started getting an error message about the version of Lemmy being used on the instance. But for the last couple of days it has been crashing immediately on opening:
Is anyone else having this problem? Can anyone recommend an alternative app?
Thanks!

Switched to liftoff and continue enjoying fediverse.
But I’m not on beehaw.

Liftoff is great! Thanks for commenting about it. I was really frustrated with Jerboa for not even allowing me to log in to Beehaw, and Connect’s really bad interface that makes it hard to read anything.
- MooMix ( @MooMix@beehaw.org ) English1•1 year ago
Awesome! I was looking for a good client. Tried it and it’s working great. Thanks for the suggestion!
- averyminya ( @averyminya@beehaw.org ) English1•1 year ago
I was able to login using Beehaw, it was Kbin that I was missing lol.
But since the crashing I am trying out Connect. I like Jeroba though so once it’s fixed I’ll probably switch back, we’ll see
Edit: so, from another comment in the thread clearing cache and storage from Jeroba stops the crashing, but since Beehaw isn’t on the same server version I can’t log into Jeroba.
That said, I’ll actually be waiting for the Boost for Lemmy app, the dev is super.

I switched to Liftoff from Jerboa, and am enjoying the Liftoff experience thus far. Works with Beehaw just fine.
- PurpleReign ( @PurpleReign@beehaw.org ) English5•1 year ago
I’m on Beehaw and can confirm that Liftoff is already miles ahead of Jerboa.
- Jimbob0i0 ( @Jimbob0i0@beehaw.org ) English2•1 year ago
Trying connect for lemmy at the moment… but I’ll add that to my list until I settle on my preferred mobile experience… thanks!

Also consider trying wefwef for an alternative webapp experience.

Thanks for the recommendation. Have just installed and connected back to Beehaw.

Liftoff feels great. If this keeps getting features, I dont see myself switching.
Dev is killing it
- kanathan ( @kanathan@beehaw.org ) English2•1 year ago
Oh, nice! Jerboa and Connect were both OK, but each were missing a few features that I wanted. I’m really liking Liftoff so far.
- hoshikarakitaridia ( @hoshikarakitaridia@lemmy.fmhy.ml ) English1•1 year ago
Switched to listoff which also didn’t work for some reason, then to connect. I also tried thunder, which works as well.
- can ( @can@beehaw.org ) English3•1 year ago
Liftoff is working for me and even let’s me seemlessly browse my beehaw and sh.itjust.works acct. If I’m on a beehaw post (like this) is automatically let’s me comment under my account here.
Really nice for when you are part of multiple communities.
- RiddleMeWhy ( @RiddleMeWhy@beehaw.org ) English2•1 year ago
A major benefit of liftoff to me is that it takes me to linked communities in app, instead of in browser like Jerboa. Makes it easier to subscribe to new communities that people share in comments
- Stanislav N. aka pztrn ( @pztrn@bin.pztrn.online ) English1•1 year ago
IDK, it works for me from the very first start.
- mrmanager ( @mrmanager@lemmy.today ) 15•1 year ago
Yup Jerboa became very unstable so I switched to Connect for Lemmy. Smooth ride now. :)
- Kuro ( @kuro_neko@lemmy.ca ) 9•1 year ago
Glad you’re enjoying Connect!
- PurpleTentacle ( @PurpleTentacle@beehaw.org ) 4•1 year ago
I’m enjoying it, too. The only thing that annoys me is how hard/hidden it is to subscribe to communities.
When I’m seeing an interesting community under top of interesting content from a community I might be interested in, it’s such a chore to find a subscribe button.
- Sharkapotamus ( @Sharkapotamus@beehaw.org ) 1•1 year ago
Second this - I had the same issue so switched to Connect and it’s working great. Fairly similar UI and I’ll probably just stick with it now.
- grumbul ( @grumbul@beehaw.org ) 10•1 year ago
Jerboa started crashing for me around the time they did an update that required a newer lemmy version. I’ve been using Liftoff and that’s working pretty well so far. I’m trying to stay open to different apps because they’re all pretty new and none that I’ve tried have been exactly what I’m looking for yet.
- ookees ( @ookees@beehaw.org ) 1•1 year ago
Thanks. Just installed Liftoff. Working well so far.
- nanometre ( @nanometre@beehaw.org ) 9•1 year ago
Yep, I’m using wefwef.app now, which is also very nice. Still have Jerboa installed for when it’ll be compatible with beehaw again.
- flatbield ( @furrowsofar@beehaw.org ) 8•1 year ago
Yes. I switched to Connect for Lemmy on Google Play for now. That app seems to work fine. Not sure it is FOSS though. Seemed the most popular too other than Jerboa.
- 0xCAFe ( @0xCAFE@feddit.de ) 8•1 year ago
Deleting storage and cache (both) worked for me.
- leds ( @leds@feddit.dk ) 1•1 year ago
Yes thanks that worked!
- raijian ( @raijian@beehaw.org ) 1•1 year ago
Thanks, I tried cache only but yep required storage too.
- ono ( @ono@lemmy.ca ) 7•1 year ago
F-Droid has previous versions, in case anyone needs to downgrade.
- String ( @StringPotatoTheory@beehaw.org ) 7•1 year ago
The most recent jerboa version doesn’t work with lemmy version 17 anymore (which beehaw is on). I had the error and crash happen too. You could download a previous version off their github and it should work with v17 instances (but probably not v18).
But I’d recommend liftoff, it was recently added to the play store and it’s actively being worked on! It’s the app I use and I’ve been enjoying it so far.
- jherazob ( @jherazob@beehaw.org ) English6•1 year ago
Did they HAVE to go with that post for the Liftoff screenshots? 😂
Edit: They even used it inside the app as a preview on the Post Style prefs! It’s very much deliberate! 😂

Hello from Liftoff! Seems to work well so far
- kuchai ( @kuchaibee@beehaw.org ) 6•1 year ago
it’s been crashing ever since that version error message started appearing. I have since uninstalled it and am just accessing beehaw using my mobile browser. It’s actually pretty good. Sure I know there are other apps in development but I would like them to mature a bit more before I try to get into them, especially considering my buggy experience with jerboa.
- godless ( @godless@latte.isnot.coffee ) 6•1 year ago
Yep. Every update breaks something new, and they never fix the old issues. I’ve now switched over to Liftoff, until Sync becomes available. From that point onward I won’t be needing anything else.
- lowleveldata ( @lowleveldata@programming.dev ) 1•1 year ago
0.36 was shit but 0.37 is actually fine now
- godless ( @godless@latte.isnot.coffee ) 3•1 year ago
0.36 worked fine for me, 0.37 doesn’t even start. Immediate crash on open.

Haven’t had any issues with crashing on Jerboa 0.0.34 on Android 13
- AndrasKrigare ( @AndrasKrigare@beehaw.org ) 4•1 year ago
As @dark_stang@beehaw.org mentioned, the progressive web app works really well. To use it, from any major browser on your phone, open up the options menu and click “install app” or “add to phone.” It’ll add an “app” to your phone which is actually a slimmed down version of your browser with the address bar and menus and whatnot removed.
- can ( @can@beehaw.org ) 2•1 year ago
There’s also an appolo-like alternative webapp.
This is what I just did since last night’s Jerboa update means it can’t even launch anymore. And while I like Jerboa, this slimmed down web app version of Lemmy is perfect and kind of all I need.
- red ( @red@feddit.de ) 4•1 year ago
Worked fine until yesterday evening. This morning (i.e. now) it instantly crashes
