rs5th ( @rs5th@beehaw.org ) English29•2 years agoNot critiquing your title, since that’s the article title but it looks like it’s just approved for testing:
This week, Alef Aeronautics revealed its flying car “Model A" was granted legal permission from the Federal Aviation Administration to test run the vehicle on the road and in the sky
Pete Hahnloser ( @Powderhorn@beehaw.org ) English15•2 years agoThe whole article’s a noncohesive mess. This piece at Flying Magazine seems to provide a better overview.
lilmann ( @lilmann@beehaw.org ) English3•2 years agoLooks like it got approval just for test purposes. Not holding my breath for production approval in the next 20 years. Imagine license tests for stuff like that
Scrubbles ( @scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech ) English3•2 years agoDownside of the “Suggested title” feature, we get the clickbait titles here too
TGQP ( @TGQP@vlemmy.net ) English14•2 years agoWith so much vaporware over the past few years, it’s an automatic BS rating until there’s independent footage of the car actually working.
LibertyLizard ( @LibertyLizard@slrpnk.net ) English11•2 years agoBeyond the technical challenges, which I believe will be overcome, there are serious noise, safety, and energy consumption issues with these machines that need to be addressed if they are to actually benefit society. If these are not addressed, hopefully regulators will keep them out of cities. But I don’t necessarily have a lot of faith that society’s leaders will put the common good ahead of the whims of the rich.
