Didn’t actually realise that the #StarTrek subreddits of /r/StarTrek & /r/DaystromInstitute had a #Lemmy community @ https://lemmy.world/c/startrek@startrek.website @startrek.
Given Trek fandom are often the first colonizers of online spaces in internet history (eg newsgroups) losing major Star Trek communities is big L for Reddit.
EDIT: Not permamently locked subreddits, got that wrong I think!
Guy Fleegman ( @GuyFleegman@startrek.website ) 12•2 years agoDon’t forget /c/Risa! We’re here too! And we have Jamaharon!
Value Subtracted ( @ValueSubtracted@mstdn.ca ) 11•2 years ago freamon ( @freamon@feddit.nl ) 5•2 years agoFrom what I can tell, those subreddits participated in the blackout, but neither are “permanently locked”.
Interesting to see though that r/startrek’s header says “now at startrek.site”
kargarocP4 ( @kargarocP4@startrek.website ) 1•2 years agoI don’t want to go to reddit, but does it really say
startrek.site
? That’s not a real domain.
Jim Daly ( @psneeze@mastodon.ie ) 5•2 years ago@startrek Now I just have to figure out how Lemmy groups work from the point of view of using Mastodon.
Julian ( @julianh@lemm.ee ) 6•2 years agoBy @ ing the community in your original post you made a post in the Lemmy community - hello from Lemmy!
@julianh oops! Don’t want to spam or overwhelm is there a link I can see/delete that from do you know?
Julian ( @julianh@lemm.ee ) 2•2 years agoLol I’m sure it’s fine, it’s just one post. Idk if there’s a way to remove it from Lemmy, maybe editing the post to remove the @ but that’s just a guess.
Sukrit Tan ( @actsukrit@mastodon.gamedev.place ) 5•2 years ago@actsukrit Interesting, thanks! will see how it goes, I work a lot of shift work when my regular feed of mostly people in Ireland are not active so having a fuller feed isn’t necessarily bad.
Have made a Lemmy a/c with the same usernname and my subscription is pending to @startrek so either way will get some content hopefully.
John :mastodon: ( @FreezePeach@twit.social ) 1•2 years ago@Lamhfada @actsukrit @startrek it’s not true that you can’t start a new thread/post from mastodon.
Here’s an example of someone who just started a lemmy post by tooting on mastodon: https://startrek.website/post/230420
interolivary ( @interolivary@beehaw.org ) 3•2 years agoAs a fairly recent Fediverse user it just tickles me to see folks from other services pop up in mine.
I can select an instance that has the sort of community and atmosphere I like, and still not be limited to just that particular instance or service. Here I am using Beehaw, talking with a Mastodon user on another Lemmy instance. How neat is that? 😀
HeapOfDogs ( @HeapOfDogs@beehaw.org ) 1•2 years agoAgree. I think it’s so cool too. I’m excited for the months to come to see the process and interfaces refine more and more.
interolivary ( @interolivary@beehaw.org ) 1•2 years agoUnfortunately Lemmy federation is more than a bit borked, so eg. my reply isn’t visible at all on Mastodon (you can check here) and a lot of the content on this thread isn’t on Beehaw at all. You can see me because you’re also on Beehaw…
I have high hopes for the platform but it’s going to be a bumpy ride 😅
HeapOfDogs ( @HeapOfDogs@beehaw.org ) 1•2 years agoIt’s just a little extra spicy.
maegul (he/they) ( @maegul@lemmy.ml ) 1•2 years agoOh … I should have replied here … I wrote a demo on mastodon of doing so.
I posted a link etc elsewhere in this thread here: https://lemmy.ml/comment/1107157
Tired8281 ( @Tired8281@lemmy.ca ) 3•2 years agoCan’t wait till they bring up a ShittyDaystrom. I’ve got a post brewing about how the Federation wouldn’t exist without disgusting Ferengi sex programs. It’s way too long and snooty for Risa, and far too ridiculous for the actual Daystrom. :(
HeapOfDogs ( @HeapOfDogs@beehaw.org ) 2•2 years agoTook a minute to figure out how to post here from beehaw but now I’m subscribed. Looking forward to this sub or whatever they are called.
Tired8281 ( @Tired8281@startrek.website ) 2•2 years agoGotta ask. I have this same account name on lemmy.world and on startrek.website. Will that be a problem? I’ve just been logging into both, the startrek.website posts seem to take a long time to get to lemmy.world, so I just log in here if I want to read this stuff.
CeruleanRuin ( @CeruleanRuin@lemmy.one ) 3•2 years agoShouldn’t be a problem. I’ve signed up for a couple of instances just to test things out. Haven’t had any issues with it.
