Nearly perfect time to strike, when the Twitter meltdown is close to full swing. The only time more perfect would’ve been Friday or Saturday.
My gut is telling me that this is going to be very popular with the Instagram set. It will be very interesting to be elsewhere on the Fedi and have access to tons and tons of content, as long as that flow stays one-way, in favor of smaller or hidden instances.
I havent seen any marketing for it… so strange considering the barrage they chummed out for Metaverse.

They’re probably soft launching and getting a few exclusivity deals in place so they can push celebrity or brand names in their marketing.

Because to those of us of a certain age in the UK, it doesn’t inspire confidence.
Eh, I’d say most of their target audience (Instagram and Twitter users) were born after that was released and have probably never heard of it.
Plus, most social media already has stupid names. Twitter. Reddit. Lemmy. Instagram. Mastodon. Tiktok. Vine. Kbin. Foursquare. Flickr. Hinge. Bumble. Tinder. These names mean nothing in relation to their function.
The only ones that are remotely close are Facebook and Snapchat.
Never made a twitter account, and ill never make one for whatever this is.

Alternatives are always good. I only wish bluesky enters the market soon. So Twitter gets fragmented.

Bluesky uses their own AT Protocol, which supports federation but is separate from ActivityPub.
I think Threads is going to eat Bluesky’s lunch. I’m not on it unfortunately but still having an invite system and not being ready while Meta is poised to launch is a bad sign.
Mastodon is handling the growing pains lot better than we are.

facebook is dead after they bloated it with every possible idea a site can have. So this is a golden opportunity for Mark to capitalise on the users who prefer twitter-like communities and attract more investors.
