dekatron ( @dekatron@lemmy.fmhy.ml ) English37•2 years agoNot surprisingly, it does all the data tracking that it can for a “text-based conversation app”.
mitch ( @msprout@beehaw.org ) English17•2 years agosquints
“Sensitive info”??? What’s that?
Ghostalmedia ( @ghostalmedia@beehaw.org ) English19•2 years agoAccording to Apple
Such as racial or ethnic data, sexual orientation, pregnancy or childbirth information, disability, religious or philosophical beliefs, trade union membership, political opinion, genetic information, or biometric data
mitch ( @msprout@beehaw.org ) English4•2 years agoYeesh, that’s some creepy shit.
RealAccountNameHere ( @RealAccountNameHere@beehaw.org ) English23•2 years agoOh, thank heavens that we’ve got another shitty billionaire-backed social app! I was worried we weren’t going to meet our monthly quota.
Benghandhi ( @Benghandhi@beehaw.org ) English11•2 years agoI don’t have much faith in people to stay away from it.
AndrewZabar ( @AndrewZabar@beehaw.org ) English1•2 years agoOf course they won’t. They flock to it like sheep because that’s what most people are.
Humanity needs a reboot.
aport ( @aport@programming.dev ) English22•2 years agoFeel sorry for anyone who willingly installs that spyware trash
evistre@beehaw.org ( @evistre@beehaw.org ) English21•2 years agoHoping we defederate from them proactively - I wouldn’t give them any more info than they already have…
The Cuuuuube ( @Cube6392@beehaw.org ) English22•2 years agoOur admins signed the affilated promise not not federate with them
Dominic ( @Dominic@beehaw.org ) English7•2 years agoThat’s one of the reasons why I joined this instance instead of any of the others.
Feanor ( @Feanor@beehaw.org ) English12•2 years agoI wonder if is already ready or if Meta is rushing it to profit of off twitters weakness
Salamander ( @Sal@mander.xyz ) English11•2 years agoWoah. That is a lot sooner than I had anticipated.
EvilColeslaw ( @EvilColeslaw@beehaw.org ) English5•2 years agoNearly perfect time to strike, when the Twitter meltdown is close to full swing. The only time more perfect would’ve been Friday or Saturday.
mitch ( @msprout@beehaw.org ) English3•2 years agoMy gut is telling me that this is going to be very popular with the Instagram set. It will be very interesting to be elsewhere on the Fedi and have access to tons and tons of content, as long as that flow stays one-way, in favor of smaller or hidden instances.
Storksforlegs ( @storksforlegs@beehaw.org ) English11•2 years agoI havent seen any marketing for it… so strange considering the barrage they chummed out for Metaverse.
I wonder how they’re going to try spinning it?
Phantome ( @Phantome@beehaw.org ) English4•2 years agoThey’re probably soft launching and getting a few exclusivity deals in place so they can push celebrity or brand names in their marketing.
Lee Duna ( @throws_lemy@lemmy.nz ) English10•2 years agobe careful guys with META, they can mess things up

DJDarren ( @DJDarren@beehaw.org ) English8•2 years agoDid no one at Meta think to see what Threads means around the world?
Because to those of us of a certain age in the UK, it doesn’t inspire confidence.
ag_roberston_author ( @ag_roberston_author@beehaw.org ) English4•2 years agoEh, I’d say most of their target audience (Instagram and Twitter users) were born after that was released and have probably never heard of it.
Plus, most social media already has stupid names. Twitter. Reddit. Lemmy. Instagram. Mastodon. Tiktok. Vine. Kbin. Foursquare. Flickr. Hinge. Bumble. Tinder. These names mean nothing in relation to their function.
The only ones that are remotely close are Facebook and Snapchat.
Kiosade ( @Kiosade@lemmy.ca ) English6•2 years agoNever made a twitter account, and ill never make one for whatever this is.
Dusty ( @Dusty@l.dustybeer.com ) English6•2 years agoDo we know the domains they are going to use for federation yet?
A Purpl Panther ( @nick_mcmanus@beehaw.org ) English4•2 years agoI believe it’s only threads.net
Soon, you’ll be able to follow and interact with people on other fediverse platforms, like Mastodon. They can also find you with your full username @username@threads.net

DelScipio ( @DelScipio@beehaw.org ) English5•2 years agoAlternatives are always good. I only wish bluesky enters the market soon. So Twitter gets fragmented.
sculd ( @sculd@beehaw.org ) English1•2 years agoBluesky is run by Jack Dorsey… not exactly confidence inspiring
Nitrousoxide ( @Nitrousoxide@beehaw.org ) English1•2 years agoIs bluesky also activity pub?
TheFascination ( @TheFascination@beehaw.org ) English3•2 years agoBluesky uses their own AT Protocol, which supports federation but is separate from ActivityPub.
TheLeechiestLeech ( @TheLeechiestLeech@lemmy.dbzer0.com ) English1•2 years agoI think Threads is going to eat Bluesky’s lunch. I’m not on it unfortunately but still having an invite system and not being ready while Meta is poised to launch is a bad sign.
snowe ( @snowe@programming.dev ) English4•2 years agoMastodon is handling the growing pains lot better than we are.
AndrewZabar ( @AndrewZabar@beehaw.org ) English3•2 years agoYay a new tech parasite I’ll never touch.
Mustafa Albazy ( @Mustafaalbazy@programming.dev ) English1•2 years agofacebook is dead after they bloated it with every possible idea a site can have. So this is a golden opportunity for Mark to capitalise on the users who prefer twitter-like communities and attract more investors.
