revs ( @revs@feddit.uk ) English60•2 years agoNot a native app, but i’m using the wefwef web app, and it’s pretty awesome and getting multiple updates a day.
It’s a web based clone of Apollo
Deconceptualist ( @Deconceptualist@lemm.ee ) English15•2 years agoWefwef looks nice and I really want to like it but I keep tapping the back button and getting sent all the way back to my communities list, and therefore losing my spot in the scroll. It’s getting old really fast.
insomniac ( @insomniac@vlemmy.net ) English7•2 years agoPWA always have a ton of UI quirks that make them hard to use. It’s a cool idea and I wish they would take off but they just aren’t there and I’m not sure wefwef will be able to overcome that, as good as it looks.
CleoTheWizard ( @CleoTheWizard@beehaw.org ) English1•1 year agoAs a non-programmer, I’m confused about this issue. I’m able to switch tabs on the bottom bar without losing the feed. I can also search for a community and look at its content without losing my main feed using the search feature.
That suggests two feeds can be present. So what gives? Why can’t my main feed by cached when looking at the community list and then restored if I go back to the same feed option? I’m just curious if this is an implementation issue or a limit outside their control.
SevenProvinces ( @7provincien@startrek.website ) English6•2 years agoI second wefwef. Incredible app, very close to Apollo.
bop ( @bop@lemmy.fmhy.ml ) English4•2 years agoAny plans to make it an iOS app that you know of?
Memmy is great too!
renlok ( @renlok@lemmy.ml ) English5•2 years agoIt’s a PWA which means you can install it on any phone
Gamma ( @GammaGames@beehaw.org ) English2•2 years agoThey are actually planning on submitting to the App Store, but it’s still going to be a pwa
fer0n ( @fer0n@lemm.ee ) 2•2 years agoLittle update for anyone stumbling across this: it’s now called Voyager (https://vger.app) and is also available as a native app (web wrapper, but still):
- iOS: App Store Link
- Android: Google Play Store
lemonadebunny ( @lemonadebunny@lemmy.ca ) English2•2 years agoSame here. I never thought I’d love a webapp so much, but here I am…
Prefix ( @Prefix@lemm.ee ) English1•2 years agoGreat app!
Gamera8ID ( @Gamera8ID@lemm.ee ) English48•2 years ago MadMaurice ( @madmaurice@discuss.tchncs.de ) English8•2 years ago+1 for Liftoff
DarthVi ( @DarthVi@lemm.ee ) English5•2 years agoI’m another Liftoff user!
I’ve also tried Jerboa, Connect for Lemmy and wefwef, but lately I’m using Liftoff a lot.
TechyDad ( @TechyDad@beehaw.org ) English4•2 years agoI like Liftoff and Jerboa. I flip between them depending on my mood.
kn0wmad1c ( @kn0wmad1c@programming.dev ) English1•2 years agoIs there a way to copy the posted link to an article straight from the feed in Liftoff? When I hit “copy link” it copies the link to the post on lemmy. I do not want this.
Pechente ( @Pechente@feddit.de ) English44•2 years agohttps://wefwef.app is amazing. PWA and hence cross-platform.
radix ( @radix@lemm.ee ) English6•2 years agoJust installed it. It looks like Apple’s UI, which gives it a kind of uncanny valley on my Android phone. Will use alongside Liftoff until I like one better, thanks for mentioning it!
SilentStorms ( @SilentStorms@lemmy.fmhy.ml ) English3•2 years agoI don’t mind it, it feels pretty clean. Probably helps that I haven’t touched an iPhone since 2015 or so, so I’m not terribly familiar with Apple’s design language anyway.
radix ( @radix@lemm.ee ) English2•2 years agoIt does feel clean. I don’t mind it either now, it just was weird at first because it felt like I was on a friend’s phone.
Pechente ( @Pechente@feddit.de ) English3•2 years agoIt’s based on Ionic, I believe and Android UI is on the roadmap.
radix ( @radix@lemm.ee ) English3•2 years agoAfter having used it for a few hours, I like Wefwef’s Apple design, or at least I like it better than Material You. Material makes me so uncomfortable with its wide spacing and white rounded content tiles. I could get used to this dark mode Apple design style, though it feels strange at first.
radix ( @radix@lemm.ee ) English2•2 years agoUpdate: I won’t be staying on Wefwef because it keeps causing Firefox Nightly to crash and not saving my spot when I switch apps, and I’m not willing to get the Firefox stable release again because the way it reloads pages every time you switch apps drives me mad.
Also, it seems to cache images so that you can open them immediately upon tapping, rather than having to wait for the image to load after your explicit tap for it to do so. I really liked this at first, but it comes at the cost of taking around eight full seconds to load everything, as compared to one or two seconds with Liftoff and Connect.
I do wish Liftoff and Connect had the compact view with image/link previews that Jerboa and Wefwef have, though.
kairo79 ( @kairo79@lemmy.ml ) English4•2 years agoI installed wefwef via chrome (wich i don’t use, but it’s preinstalled on my Phone) and this way it works fine, very fine.
lotanis ( @lotanis@discuss.tchncs.de ) English5•2 years agoI’ve got it installed as a PWA (Firefox Android). It’s great but is there any way to get it to open links in my proper browser rather than the web view type thing?
kairo79 ( @kairo79@lemmy.ml ) English2•2 years agoI also like wefwef the most, so far. But is there a way to hide the posts that i have watched, so that i don’t see 90% of the same content everytime i open lemmy?
Pechente ( @Pechente@feddit.de ) English3•2 years agoYou can swipe on posts to reveal more options and one of them is to hide it.
Amex ( @Amex@lemmy.ca ) English1•2 years agoWhere are you guys installing this from? Obtanium says it can’t find a suitable release. And it’s not on Play Store or F-Droid.
Pechente ( @Pechente@feddit.de ) English2•2 years agoIt’s a PWA. You can just install it with your browser.
Amex ( @Amex@lemmy.ca ) English2•2 years agoThanks, I did that using Chrome. Is there a way to auto update it? I do like how smooth it scrolls! Even compared to Jerboa.
Pechente ( @Pechente@feddit.de ) English1•2 years agoIt shows you a banner when an update is available and you can tap a button to install it. Not sure if there’s a more automated way.
djvinniev77 ( @djvinniev77@lemmy.ml ) English1•2 years agoThis. I was trying to comment earlier but was having problems.
Phantom52347 ( @Phantom52347@lemmy.one ) 32•2 years agoSync for Lemmy (android)
Dwalin ( @Dwalin@lemm.ee ) 14•2 years agoI’ve been using Sync for a couple of hours and already uninstalled Liftoff and Connect hahaha. Don’t get me wrong they’re both great, but Sync is that much better
Michal ( @Michal@discuss.tchncs.de ) 7•2 years agoSame, already paid for year’s subscription too. I used Sync for reddit and trust the developer to make a quality app.
Senuf ( @Senuf@lemmy.ml ) 4•1 year agoSync and Boost are indeed outstanding, just like they were on Reddit. My two favourites, no doubt about it
PreciousDeclaration ( @PreciousDeclaration@lemmy.zip ) English24•2 years agoFor me personally, Jerboa is the best Android Lemmy app that I’ve tried, and I have tried several of them. I’ll just be glad when Sync for Lemmy is released.
JaxiiRuff ( @JaxiiRuff@pawb.social ) English3•2 years agoYeah I like Jerboa. Development has been pretty fast too.
dottedgreenline ( @dottedgreenline@lemmy.ml ) English2•2 years agoTried Sync, Liftoff, Connect and Lemmotif (I think that’s all the free ones on the playstore as of August '23), and I am always preferring Jerboa.
techcelt ( @techcelt@lemmy.ml ) English2•2 years agoI have tried Jerboa, and have just tried liftoff. I prefer the UI of Jerboa and it’s in fdroid also!
OceanSoap ( @OceanSoap@lemmy.ml ) English0•2 years agoSame, I’ll be on Jerboa until Sync launches. I can’t wait.
AngryDemonoid ( @AngryDemonoid@lemmy.lylapol.com ) English18•2 years ago modkhi ( @modkhi@vlemmy.net ) English4•2 years agoBoost is coming to Lemmy? Where can I follow for info on that? That was the app I used for Reddit, and while Jerboa has similar features it’s not quite the same for me. Especially the swipe gestures…
Also, surprisingly, Boost is still working for me fot Reddit. I’m still waiting for it to crash.
Erick Yeagle ( @erickyeagle@programming.dev ) English2•2 years agoWhere can I follow for info on that?
The dev created a community at !boostforlemmy@lemmy.world.
TechyDad ( @TechyDad@beehaw.org ) English2•2 years agoI heard about Boost coming to Lemmy also. I don’t have any information about development progress, but I’ll definitely be trying it out once it launches.
Boost is still working for Reddit because Reddit realized that turning off their API access was harder than they thought. It will take them a few weeks to do this. Once they do, Boost for Reddit will be dead.
I’m still using it to look into a few subreddits every so often. (Ones that I haven’t found Lemmy replacements for.) When it dies, my time spent on Reddit - already very reduced from the pre-API crisis levels - will drop even more.
AngryDemonoid ( @AngryDemonoid@lemmy.lylapol.com ) English1•2 years agoI patched Boost just in case, so I check the sub every day to see if it’s still working.
Last I saw, Reddit is ending the API over the next few weeks. Because of course they are.
m-p{3} ( @mp3@lemmy.ca ) English16•2 years agoAndroid user here, I’m quite happy with Connect for Lemmy
The official community is at /c/lemmyconnect
redjard ( @Redjard@lemmy.dbzer0.com ) English5•2 years ago+1 on connect. The things it can’t do well, namely searching, I do in wefwef
MentalEdge ( @MentalEdge@sopuli.xyz ) English15•2 years agoReally liking thunder, now that I can view profiles and edit comments.
theolodger ( @theolodger@feddit.uk ) English1•2 years agoHow does one view profiles in Thunder?
MentalEdge ( @MentalEdge@sopuli.xyz ) English1•2 years agoCurrently only opening post author profiles is possible, long tap a post, or tap their name in the post view. Same is coming for comments.
Arayvenn ( @Arayvenn@lemmy.ca ) English12•2 years agoAndroid user here. Liftoff is unmatched in terms of its visual presentation.
Amex ( @Amex@lemmy.ca ) English3•2 years agoI find Jerboa scrolls nicer. And it seems stable now.
radix ( @radix@lemm.ee ) English3•2 years agoInteresting; I fled Jerboa because its scrolling wasn’t smooth. I’m using primarily Liftoff now because it looks and feels so good and works for everything I need. Its search function also allows filtering for posts, users, and communities, a feature which Connect does not have.
Aeroatrix ( @Toxinflora@lemmy.ml ) English10•2 years agoWell the app is currently in the earlier phases of development but i think more people should know that there is currently an attempt at porting slide for reddit to lemmy. here is the releases from the repository https://github.com/bqv/slide/releases, but its very early in development
SummerIsTooWarm ( @SummerIsTooWarm@lemmy.ml ) English5•2 years agoWow, did not expect Slide for Lemmy. I used Slide for years until the api shutdown. I’m really looking forward for this app
TheLemming ( @u202307011927@feddit.de ) English3•2 years agoI am hyped for it aswell!!
Dreamer_joy ( @Dreamer_joy@lemmy.ml ) English9•2 years ago‘Connect’ seems to be quite good.
flea ( @flea@hive.atlanten.se ) English6•2 years agoWefwef. Mlem is showing promise.
Blegh ( @Blegh@lemm.ee ) 6•2 years agoI have about 6 installed. Connect is good. Liking Infinity right now. Jerboa is really good, but I like to have comments sorted by top as a default which is doesn’t do…yet.
Really, I’m waiting for Boost, but likely jump between a few for now.
childeofentropy ( @childeofentropy@lemmy.ml ) 5•1 year agoAndroid: Eternity (A Lemmy client for Android, forked from the Infinity for Reddit project.) https://f-droid.org/packages/eu.toldi.infinityforlemmy/
djvinniev77 ( @djvinniev77@lemmy.ml ) English5•2 years agoNot sure if same on iPhone but wefwef.app is great on android. Tried jerboa, connect and liftoff, this one is a pwa and it works quite well.
midnight ( @midnight@lemmy.one ) English3•2 years ago+1 for Liftoff. I’ve got 4 apps and wefwef pwa going and I keep finding myself going to Liftoff more and more frequently.
djvinniev77 ( @djvinniev77@lemmy.ml ) English1•2 years agoHmm. Trying latest liftoff, some slowness vs pwa but it seems to get all the images with no issues. Time will tell I guess in which ones to stick with.
midnight ( @midnight@lemmy.one ) English1•2 years agoYeah nothing is quite perfect yet, and I’m figuring out my priority features as I keep going. The future is bright though.
alcasa ( @alcasa@lemmy.sdf.org ) English2•2 years agoI seem to have scrolling issues with wefwef on IOS. Memmy which is currently in Testflight is much smoother most of the time
