Is anyone here signed up on multiple instances? Is there a reason why you’d want to do this?

  • I have two accounts I use (and two more I don’t from exploring the fediverse a bit), beehaw and lemmy.world. Beehaw is nice, but doesn’t have the nisch communities that are on lemmy.world, and with the current federation situation two accounts are easiest for me at least.

Btw, Liftoff for Android works really well with multiple accounts. You can merge it all in one feed and it uses the right account depending on what server the post is from.

  • Not yet, but I will eventually. I usually segregate accounts on platforms: one account that posts things that irl friends/family/coworkers may recognize me by (not yet made) and another account for everything else (this one). It seems natural to have those two accounts be on separate instances given how federation/defederation works.

  • On Lemmy no, but I have a kbin account on fedi196.gay.

I do the same with the microblog platforms, I have a mastodon account and an Akkoma one. I haven’t got Misskey/Calckey (the Misskey server I was a long time ago died and I haven’t being “back” on a any server running on any of the keys) or GoToSocial (never tried it)

I like to have different accounts on similar federated social networks because, not only they have distinct features that make them be better for certain things, but also as backups. If one is down I still can have access through another account to the same content. And having the accounts on servers running different (although similar) software is better because if there’s a general problem with servers running on X software, I can still access to content through the servers I joined that run on Y or Z software. (I know is extremely rare for something like this to happen, but better safe than sorry)
