She’s been through her 3rd cable box and it not working and she just told me she’s wants me to bring her to the Comcast store and get something else.
I’m thinking YouTube TV since it has the local channels that she wants and the unlimited DVR. We have gigabit fiber so speed won’t be an issue.
distractedcactus ( @distractedcactus@beehaw.org ) English4•2 years agoIf she’s ditching cable because of technical issues or the ratio of crap channels to good content then YouTube TV is a good option. It sucks that they don’t have a bundle with TV and YouTube Premium though.
If she’s concerned about price then it doesn’t really get better switching to a streaming option from cable. Especially now that cable companies are desperate to keep subscribers - they are often willing to give huge rate discounts to keep people.
Yep, shes just tired of hardware. We already have a Apple TV so we just need a app.
rustyspoon ( @rustyspoon@beehaw.org ) English3•2 years agoPerfect, she’s just in time to see streaming services fully adopt cable tv business practices
flatbield ( @furrowsofar@beehaw.org ) English2•2 years agoFrankly local channels just use an antenna if you are in a fairly good location.
My local utility actually installs antennas! Might do that in the future.
Chris Remington ( @remington@beehaw.org ) English1•2 years agoMy family of four are happy with Max (formerly HBO Max) and Disney+. However, you can ask your mother to think about the type of content that she watches the most and then go look at all the streaming options. Then she can pick the ones that suit her the most.
tokyorock ( @tokyorock@beehaw.org ) English2•2 years agoMy parents ditched cable, but they still like watching the nightly news. Paramount Plus worked well for them, since it includes CBS livestreaming.
