On a post with a YouTube link we can open in the default browser, or copy the link, then open NewPipe, search for the pasted link and then see the video.
Can we get a ‘share the link’ instead of the ‘copy link’ .
In any case, thank you for the great app, and thank you for all the effort and care you’ve put into this.
30021190 ( @30021190@lemmy.cloud.aboutcher.co.uk ) 11•1 year agoSo my Android phone has new pipe set as the default to hand all YT links in the settings, however the baked in yt app always takes over and I can’t seem to stop this… I don’t think it can be forced easily.
8565 ( @8565@lemmy.quad442.com ) 1•1 year agoWhat if you remove the YouTube app
30021190 ( @30021190@lemmy.cloud.aboutcher.co.uk ) 3•1 year agoYou can’t remove YT in a log of official Android ROMs as it’s backed in, not can you disable it…
8565 ( @8565@lemmy.quad442.com ) 2•1 year agoADB will let you remove it. Did it to my Pixel
odium ( @odium@programming.dev ) 2•1 year agoSome manufacturers won’t let you
Zangoose ( @Zangoose@lemmy.one ) 4•1 year agoEven if you can’t uninstall it you can usually “disable” it with the same effect in settings somewhere (that’s what I did on my phone, I’m using revanced now)
stepan ( @stepan@lemmy.fmhy.ml ) 2•1 year agoYou can always use ADB.
8565 ( @8565@lemmy.quad442.com ) 4•1 year agoADB was the route I was thinking
bbbhltz ( @bbbhltz@beehaw.org ) English3•1 year agoThat’s how I took care of it too https://bbbhltz.codeberg.page/2023/05/on-debloating-android-phones/
UprisingVoltage ( @UprisingVoltage@feddit.it ) 2•1 year agoIt’s easy with https://github.com/Lorenzoantonelli/TapDebloater/releases/
cnnrduncan ( @cnnrduncan@beehaw.org ) 1•1 year agoI don’t have this problem personally with Android anymore, though I did while on the stock ROM. Nowadays I have Vanced installed in Insular with NewPipe on my personal profile and YouTube links default to NewPipe!
Could be worth trying to disable the built-in YouTube app using ADB commands then installing NewPipe (and Vanced in an Insular profile if you need functions such as casting) if you you don’t mind putting in 10-15 minutes work to do so, I can’t 100% guarantee that it’ll work with every phone and version of Android though!
gigachad ( @gigachad@feddit.de ) 8•1 year agoFor me YouTube links get automatically opened with newPipe. Latest version of jerboa installed.
dingdongitsabear ( @dingdongitsabear@lemmy.ml ) 6•1 year agoI think the share functionallity is missing. It could be used for what you want. I’m used to sending a video I come accross to macast and I can’t get that in Jerboa at present.
UprisingVoltage ( @UprisingVoltage@feddit.it ) 3•1 year agoUse https://www.f-droid.org/packages/com.tasomaniac.openwith.floss/
In “app features” enable “set app as browser”
Anamana ( @Anamana@feddit.de ) 2•1 year agoDidn’t work
Waker ( @Waker@lemmy.pt ) 3•1 year agoThis doesn’t really answer your question, but revanced works fine. So if it bothers you too much you can always go that route.
smokedclover ( @smokedclover@feddit.de ) 2•1 year agoYou can share to newpipe from the default browser for the time being
Poke ( @poke@beehaw.org ) 1•1 year agoDon’t know if this solves your problem but you can go into the android settings app and make newpipe the default handler for YouTube links if it’s not already.
cnnrduncan ( @cnnrduncan@beehaw.org ) 2•1 year agoIf you’ve got the Google play services installed and the official YouTube app they pull some shit to force YouTube links to use the official player - or at least that has been my experience in recent versions of “official” versions of Android!
