I never disputed that this person might be doing much. I only disputed that they said it would be easy living US Free. Which, in the Tech Sector it is not.
This is not a political debate, this is about facts of patents, dependencies and supply chains.

Nah, man. I hate the American Dominance as much as the next guy. I’m just telling you to be realistic. There is no independence from US Tech yet. We will reach that some day and I will be glad but right now it is not feasible.
You got to get your mindset in check. If you call anyone a MAGA plant that corrects you, there’s something wrong with how you see the world.
I also never said that we should not do anything about it, that’s just something you put into my mouth. I want people to get off American Tech, why do you think I’m here on Lemmy? But saying that not a single cent will go to the US is just factually wrong.

If Huawei were to release a Laptop without Bluetooth, without Wifi, without HDMI, without H.264 or H.265, and without any other US patented Tech and without any paid US Software anywhere inside their supply chain, not a single cent would flow to the US.
But that’s not the case yet, so we still have to keep on dreaming.

Well, yeah. If you just exclude companies that are too hard to avoid, like Intel, Nvidia, AMD, Qualcomm, and Google (with your Android), suddenly it is really easy. Just because something isn’t fabbed in the US, that doesn’t mean it’s a non-US Product. Some Tech Company in the US still profits through your purchase. That’s what the previous commentor hinted at with “Don’t use any computers?”

Using Proton always seemed like a bad idea. People come to Proton in order to deGoogle or de-big-tech but then lock themselves into their ecosystem, defeating the entire purpose.
Not mention how scummy their PR-Team, their CEO and their Business Practices are.
So many Proton sponsered content creators spread lies about how Proton Mail is supposedly E2E encrypted or how Proton VPN is supposedly a privacy and security tool.
Time and time again they have lied about how much data they have and how much they have disclosed to investigating agencies.

The only way I could ever undestand someone using Proton Mail would be to use their service but behind your own domain, such that migrating away stays easy.

I’d rather not. The EU has already experienced growing fatigue. The further away the member states are, the less they have in common and the harder it will be to agree on political topics.
People in Canada have little in common with europeans, compared to countries within the EU, which are much more alike to another. Canadians are politically, economically and stragegically much closer aligned with the US than with the EU. E.g. a Canadian does not need to care as much about the Russian threat as Poles or Fins do.
I’d love for Canada and the EU to become closer allies but I wouldn’t want them as a (current day type) member. The same goes for Australia, New Zealand or Japan. I’d love them as allies but not as EU Members.
A new Type of EU Membership though, which would profit from the single market, the euro, etc. but does not have voting power on people that actually live in europe though, I’d like.

Okay, so? OpenAI is also controlled by a Non-Profit (Similar Structure to Proton, I suppose). That doesn’t stop them from being scummy. Please explain your point.

Nothing is stopping Proton from doing the same thing next week. And seeing how many people lock themselves in to Proton (by using all their services, Apple style), they have a strong incentive to also do some “restructuring” and spike prices.
