Wouldn’t be the first time a dictator keeps pushing, goes to far and suddenly all brakes are off from the previous hesitant opponent. Both sides should know better.

People have been fed the Story of Progress for the last centuries and it became a secular religion next to the Story of Money. It’s the last few years that many people see how unequal the happy ending is in these stories, thanks to the billionaire class and AI companies doing and saying their thing.

Unfortunately a lot of satire turns to reality these days. The Onion has a lot of work keeping ahead of the craziness.

It’s just a high tech sock puppet

At that point you connect your phone to a screen and use that to handle what is needed for paying bills and schoolwork instead of yet another subscription. It’s after the AI bubble pops, so Greatest Depression time and nobody got spare cash for more services.

If it pays rent, lots of folks will give it a system to live in.

and the worst part … They want to also give that to those people. Can you imagine?
