Number of the Beast - Iron Maiden

Quick listen, just 8 songs and 40 minutes. Has probably my favorite closing song of any album. It’s the album I used to convince my bluegrass and folk-loving dad that metal had more artistry than he was giving it credit for. Bruce Dickinson’s voice is unreal.

This album’s tour was one of the best live performances I’ve seen. As someone who really connects with their lyrics but never thought of them as powerhouse performers or anything, I was really blown away

I didn’t know what the Fediverse was a week ago, and now I’m active on Lemmy and Mastodon. I think people are dramatically overstating how difficult it is to sign up. It’s not hard, it’s just new.

And besides, I don’t think the fediverse needs to take over at all. It just needs to have active, viable, engaging communities. As Iong as enough people end up here to sustain that, it doesn’t really matter if they overtake the places we’re coming from.

This is exactly how I feel. My lifelong best friend was raised Republican as a devout evangelical Christian, and even he switched to a Democrat when Trump won the primary.

I don’t want to be hostile to people seeking genuine political discourse, but I just don’t see that coming from the right. I see ongoing attempts to oppress, disenfranchise, and dehumanize vulnerable populations, and very little else. I understand we’re supposed to accept that whatever conservatives believe is a legitimate political opinion purely by virtue of so many people believing it. But I just can’t get there when the thing we’re supposed to accept is the dehumanization of people who are relying on us to be allies. I don’t reject conservatives out of hand because i value intolerance. I reject them because they do.
