  • Boys are trained to avoid doing anything “girly”. It is everything from being encouraged toward military service to being socialized to be unhygenic on purpose or being trained never to cry. But people NEED safety, cleanliness, and vulnerability, those are human qualities. Boy and manhood is becoming increasingly detached from humanity to some. Most well adjusted people will realize everyone has feminine and masculine aspects and EVERYONE has basic human needs like… to cry when bad things happen.

For boys like Andrew Tate, Ben Shapiro, etc femininity is abhorrent, so masculinity has become an increasingly bitter imposition. What matters to them is defining themselves outside of femininity and any attempt to deduce what masculinity is or can be are irrelevant outside of that. Its the result of seeing sex as a caste system they’re at the top of. Queers and college professors come shaking the trees and they don’t want to fall out. So now manhood more than ever is about fucking loathing women and gays.

  • If foreign actors like Russia decide to influence the Fediverse (which is already highly radicalized), they’d have a very easy time.

If? Did you see the mental gymnastics and agitprop going on around the election to get Trump elected? One or more nation state botnets is already deeply entrenched here. Since the election they became inactive and the stream of murder/suicide-“leftist” posting died down. Denialism of the Russian disinfo operations, which are well documenteted at this point, is also decently common here. I will probably get a comment about it in fact.

  • Neoliberal art cannot answer these questions. Arcane is great and at times even better than great but it is a platform to advertise League of Legends. They can’t properly resolve Piltover/Zaun for the same reason newscasters can’t say out loud “Luigi Mangione is based as shit”. That fundamental truth about our society is like yellow cake uranium broken up into fine powder and lying on the ground to the media and artists working on corporate IP.

For the same reason I was struck in season 1 by how amazingly well done the characters are and how it doesn’t matter because like the protagonists of a Marvel movies, their character arcs bend inexorably toward them becoming video game superheroes. As if caught zipping around a black hole at the speed of light as they dance toward the event horizon, there is no path that leads to peace for any of them because their characters have to be in position to become League of Legends champions who battle it out in toxic gamer Valhalla forever.

Arcane is so much better than Riot Games deserves and its because its a Riot Games property that held it back from saying the things it clearly was thinking about (Jace and Victor, Piltover should be fucking dissolved, Caitlyn should necessarily do jail time). I hope Arcane inspires people to always be critically examining their favorite stories for the untold stories still inside them because that’s what made the show great for me. But it was only as earnest as it could be given the circumstances.

  • I paired down a much cruder response initially to just what you read because I thought about it and realized this was the case. I still find it disgusting to use whataboutism to ignore Europe’s racism. If your answer to is to shrug off your own country’s white supremacism because America is worse that’s bullshit. It isn’t as enlightened as you think it is.

  • Perhaps theres a difference between your shotgun shell vending machine in school (still fucked up; if the rounds were for extracurriculars why did they charge you for it?) can you tell I never played ball in school?) 25 years ago and the current world with its bi-monthly mass child sacrifices to Mammon. Different contexts. Now such a thing is definitely gaudy and flagrently disregards the countrys gun violence problem and how many people are dying so these gun industry fucks can get their jollies.

Edit: you conveniently misconstrued a factoid from your youth to make my argument against out of control gun culture seem fallacious and I don’t love that.

  • It is real fucking off kilter to have these things in a country where children are mass murdered by bullets so often. The bullets were already legally purchasable but putting them in a vending machine really makes it obvious that in this country the Almighty Gat is as available and ubiquitous as Coca Cola. We’re a sick people willing to allow another middle man between us and the sale of some bullets so we can have it dispensed out of a cool vending machine like in my favorite action-adventure roleplaying video game title Cyberpunk 2077.

  • I wholeheartedly agree with you and wish this post had gone better for you but it has to be said your point was obliterated by your obstinate defense of your complimentary AI image. Clearly people do not agree with your stance that your AI, though locally grown, open source, and energy efficient, is not in theory stealing. In my opinion, unfortunately, it sort of is stealing unless you source the input data yourself. I read somewhere in the thread you possibly did source your own data and thats really cool if so. But I think that it just goes to show that at least on Lemmy your receptive audience just… doesn’t like AI art in principle. I’ll say it universally looks groddy to me and I had the same gut reaction to seeing the art even though I like what it depicts and love the message (and title!).

Another thing is… Know your audience. The premise of this thread already means you were going to be engaging with prickly Marxist-Leninists to begin with… Since they do practice whatabohtism as you stated, they just need a thing to dig into to discredit you, and you sort of gave it to them. Not saying you have to be the perfect flawless diplomat with how you comport yourself online (god knows I’m not) but to an audience who aren’t receptive anyway your defense of your practices while not broadly clarifying the source of your training data is just going to lead them to thinking of you as a reactionary in favor of art regurgitation, indicating you are more about your aesthetic than your message. I think you have pirate party politics and I respect the long term vision of a world without constraints on how art is shared and understood, but this specific tool we’re discussing requires far more attention than not in order to be wielded ethically. People are gunshy just seeing it, even if theoretically they don’t know what you’re showing them is a home made original piece with original constituent data.

You can’t really wear a big hat on the internet that says ASK ME ABOUT MY ETHICAL OPEN SOURCE AI but perhaps you could have user flair in your nametag. On your blog you could caption your art with a disclaimer and a github link to the resources you use/used to build it.
