The problem was when he recommended NewPipe people downloaded ad-riddled forks from the Play Store that were still called NewPipe instead of the real version from F-Droid like he told them to, so he got lots of comments from idiots thinking he scammed them who were probably turned off from alternative apps entirely by the experience.

The license is specifically so FUTO can legally go after anyone who does that, and prevent the app’s name from being tarnished by bad actors. It’s not necessarily the best way of accomplishing that goal, but I understand it.
