i have had multiple times where my comments were removed for being lightly snarky to a bigot meanwhile they’re allowed unabated making shitty comments about my queerness. like most recently the mods of /c/fediverse on lemmy.world removed my entire post announcing the new sharkey instance at cyberpunk.gay for no reason just because i was less than polite to someone who was being shitty

what gives? this is the fediverse

  • Okay I dove into the modlog, and since I’m an admin I can see deleted stuff. You literally called yourself a t*rrorist. I know in a “fun” lgbtq way, but as an admin myself I’m personally liable for things people post on my instance and communities.

It probably has nothing to do with being trans, from your post I probably would have had to remove it too.

    • I’m an admin too. If your reason for removing a post is because a queer person called themselves a gender terrorist, then it is in fact about them being trans. There is no scenario where you personally are at risk from a queer person describing their identity

  • In my experience, the larger threadiverse instances have gradually collected the worst ex-redditors, who have brought the worst of reddit’s culture. I’m unfortunately not surprised that lemmy.world has queerphobic mods, given how the users behave. 😕

What Scrubbles said plus you shouldn’t lower yourself to someone else’s level, it just doesn’t work. And as a minority you/we have extra responsibilities regarding our behavior. It sucks, but the fact is that if, say, someone with a foreign background acts shitty they’ll be judged way harsher for it than a native and it rubs off on everyone from that minority.

I don’t mean to invalidate your experience though. It sucks. I know. I receive multiple insults a day, too, but I can’t just go around escalating things. That automatically would make me just as wrong as the other person.

That’s different than self defense of course. But self defense is all about solving a problem, and not seeing it as a personal thing.
