I hope that 100 years from now, a day will come when everyone uses privacy-enabled Linux (or some sort of *BSD), and those users have no clue what the Windows hell from soul-sucking corporations like Microsoft looks like. A boy can dream, can’t he?

I have been using the Linux desktop exclusively from 1998@nixCraft@mastodon.social For me it is the year :blobfoxcomputer:

@nixCraft@mastodon.social The main problem that I see is the perceived sense of convenience and “connected-ness” that big tech offers. I say perceived because the convenience comes from familiarity of MS based OS to the average user and not because BigTech has something superior to offer. The NextCloud project is getting closed to the OneDrive+M365 offering and that, hopefully will be the key to privacy focused “connected-ness”.

@nixCraft@mastodon.social This won’t happen anytime soon, because school computers only run Windows, and school kids aren’t taught how to write HTML, but how to export their Microsoft Word documents as HTML… 😭 (yes, this actually happens)
