Edit: I had someone comment one time when I did, and it was kind of weird and embarrassing? But it seemed like a fairly normal thing to do, so I thought I’d ask.
Naich ( @Naich@lemmings.world ) 38•3 months agoAre there people that don’t?
Sturgist ( @Sturgist@lemmy.ca ) 17•3 months agoYes, and they’re either sociopaths, or were born with a critical lack of curiosity.
ℕ𝕖𝕞𝕠 ( @Nemo@slrpnk.net ) 29•3 months agoYeah man, gotta know if there’s blood or not.
SHOW_ME_YOUR_ASSHOLE ( @SHOW_ME_YOUR_ASSHOLE@lemm.ee ) 18•3 months agoYes, I need to make sure that what’s in the tissue matches what I felt fly out of my nose so I know it’s not stuck in my beard.
icerunner_origin ( @icerunner_origin@startrek.website ) 3•3 months agoTo be fair, your username kind of suggests you want to look inside everything anyway
SHOW_ME_YOUR_ASSHOLE ( @SHOW_ME_YOUR_ASSHOLE@lemm.ee ) 3•3 months agoRight you are!
infinitevalence ( @infinitevalence@discuss.online ) English16•3 months agoIf I didn’t look how would I know what kind of infection I have?
half coffee ( @half@lemy.lol ) 16•3 months agoLots of people talking about monitoring health, I just look because I’m curious lol
Omega_Jimes ( @Omega_Jimes@lemmy.ca ) 9•3 months agoIn the modern day, sometimes it’s just nice to be able to say “I did that!”.
Same reason I look in the toilet.
Vanth ( @Vanth@reddthat.com ) English4•3 months agoSomeday there might be brains there, so I agree!
qyron ( @qyron@sopuli.xyz ) 13•3 months agoYes. And we always should. The colour of what is coming out can hint how far/how bad you might be on a cold, as well as the consistency. Knowing if you’re losing blood or clots is also important.
kingthrillgore ( @KingThrillgore@lemmy.ml ) 8•3 months agoYes. Excess of green or yellow mucus could be indicative of strep throat or a cold. If there’s bleeding, that’s a sign of worse.
arsCynic ( @arsCynic@beehaw.org ) 5•3 months agoBlood is most likely just a minor nosebleed due to nosepicking or simply vulnerable tissue. No need for panic. If it happens more often than not, then simply check with a doctor. And still no need for panic.
some_guy ( @some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org ) 1•3 months agoMy left nostril bleeds pretty much every time that I blow full-blast. I have to be gentle to avoid it.
Mycatiskai ( @Mycatiskai@lemmy.ca ) 1•3 months agoI had a nosebleed for hours which would barely stop without full pressure pinch. I was at the ER waiting for hours and the doctor finally saw me and didn’t think it was an issue worth treating as I was asking for it to be cauterized. I simply exhaled through my nose at a normal level and it started bleeding again. She went out and got the silver nitrate to burn it without another word.
Sam_Bass ( @Sam_Bass@lemmy.ml ) 5•3 months agoJust checking for blood
Sigilos ( @BrazenSigilos@ttrpg.network ) 4•3 months agoYes, for three reasons.
- I judge the color to be sure I’m not getting sick and it’s just a regular need to blow my nose.
- I check for the presence of any blood, since I work around materials and in environments that can cause alot of dry air, giving me a higher incidence of nose bleeds.
- My work environments are very dusty, and if Inhave alot of black or grey dust when I blow my nose, I know I need to clean my airways when I get the chance so the dust isn’t in there longer then a day.
Vaggumon ( @Vaggumon@lemm.ee ) 3•3 months agoI hold the folded tissue up to the light, if I see color I double check, if not, then no. Also I usually only do this if I feel a reason to, like feeling sick, or like it may have been a bloody nose, etc.
Joe Dyrt ( @JoeDyrt57@lemmy.ml ) 3•3 months agoAlong the questions we all wonder about!
Mr. Satan ( @mr_satan@monyet.cc ) 2•3 months agoYes.
samus12345 ( @samus12345@lemm.ee ) English1•3 months agoUsually only if I’m sick, so I can see how transparent the snot is.
verdigris ( @verdigris@lemmy.ml ) 1•3 months agoI almost never blow my nose anymore since I read that doing so tends to blow snot into your sinus cavities, which increases the risk of infection. It’s better to just sniff in most cases.
big_fat_fluffy ( @big_fat_fluffy@leminal.space ) English1•3 months agoEvery single time. I just like it.
