Maybe not in popularity, but they’re perfectly fine OSs. Probably close to ten years ago now, I ran FreeBSD on my desktop, and I was gaming and everything. It was just as functional as Linux was at the time. Things may have changed since then, but from my experience, I doubt for the worse.
