Do y’all think we’ll be able to repeal the anti-trans laws that were passed the past few years?
Since Rs still hold the Texas Senate, I don’t know how many laws can truely be repealed since they’re gonna stonewall everything- but with their exec branch and House turned over the damage can be limited, and the exec branch can simply choose to stop enforcing some of those laws.
More importantly this is momentum. If they can unfuck a lot of Texas’ corruption and voter suppression it will only turn MORE blue as time goes on, and it could be a full flip by 2028.
Talarico won without being horrible to trans people, I hope its the beginning of the end of politicized transphobia.
Ditto El Sayed.

It will be hard to override the gerrymandering even if a somewhat significant majority vote progressively. But it’s a step.
The legislature is still republican, but the Lt. Governor gets to decide what legislation comes up for a vote. Unlikely to undo anyrhing, but even worse anti-trans laws are unlikely to pass.
It’s looking like we might flip the state house actually.
quite possible, but not the state senate. have to get that one next time ('28).
True, but that was always going to be a massive uphill battle because of how the senate races are staggered. There’s been plenty of groundwork laid for more wins come '28.
No shit. This day just keeps getting better.
The legislature is still very red unfortunately so this will most likely mean no new bills for a while.
edit: AP has called enough races now that the democrats have flipped the house, but not the senate. Right now at 3pm CST democrats have a 1 seat majority in the house with about a dozen races still uncalled. Republicans have 4 (out of 31) seat majority in the senate with all races called.
State house flipped I thought?
It sure did, I’ll edit my comment.

Keep going, never stop pushing them.
I am very surprised to read this about Texas. But keep pushing.
I’m Happy for you and Wish you all the best from Europe!
I can finally spend less time worrying about all the trans folks in Texas. I’m so happy for you!
My state went from purple to blue and I feel like I can breathe for the first time in my adult life.
One wonders how many ex-Californians were the factor.
Native Texas vote more blue on average than transplants. Contrary to popular belief, most people moving here from blue states tend to be very politically conservative.
Not many would be my guess. The Californians that left are MAGA.
Thank you for voting!
