I’d rather listen to fireworks a couple or three days a year than the incessant, random barking of all the fucking dogs around us. Not to mention clearing up the cat shit on the front grass every few days. Fucking hate your pets. They’re noisy and dirty and I have to stand in the cold clearing up after them.
I think they should not be purchasable by the public. I like them but too many idiots abuse them.
Oh no we didn’t do anything at all for Bonfire Night! Saw some cockatoos by the canal though.
In the USA we have them mainly for independence day and not so much new years, so it’s not cold. Idk I love them, I still think they should be banned because they trigger people and animals, but I enjoy watching them. If you’re cold, get drunk, it’s new years anyway.
In the UK our main fireworks night is 5 Nov - tonight.
It’s Guy Fawkes night, or bonfire night, celebrating the time when a guy tried to blow up the House of Parliament centuries ago.
So it’s not really anything like new years.

Yeah they suck, and I’d like to see heavy regulation on them if not banning them altogether. My dog hates the noise, and we don’t need more microplastics spread everywhere for a bit of entertainment,
I’ve always liked them, I like the feel of the bass of the explosions in my chest.
Plus I work between two displays in London so it gives me a job.

Agree with everything you said. The feeling and noise is part of the experience. It’s like when you go to an airshow and the jets make all the atoms in your body vibrate.
But yeah, they should only be used by professionals at authorised displays. I think a lot of people get annoyed by them because people set them off randomly over the course of a couple of weeks.
They are banned in Northern Ireland outside of licenced displays. Doesn’t seem to stop anybody.

Last year I saw this giant fog haze of toxic smoke descending on the streets after the fireworks. Like great thanks it’s not like I enjoy breathing or anything either

In Switzerland, theres an upcoming vote on banning private fireworks entirely in a few weeks. And it looks like it might pass by a big margin. People are just tired of it.
It was fun as a child, but back then we had very little fireworks, and only on the national holiday. Nowadays, theres constant banging for several days around both new year and the national holiday. I hate the fucking noise and will vote yes on the ban.

Swiss authorities will never pass up an opportunity to fine you, so I don’t think we’ll have an enforcement issue.

I’ve come to hate things exploding outdoors in general, over the past 4.5 years.
I don’t care for them, but I don’t hate the fireworks as much as I hate the dickheads setting them off at 3am when it’s not anywhere near a holiday.
No, I’m sure a lot of people hate them and feel the same as you do about them. But a lot of people enjoy them too 🤷 they are exciting, thrilling, traditional and a sociable event. Me personally, I’m not fussed either way by them.
