In particular, the government is proposing a new housing partnership directly with Manitoba, investing $1 billion through Build Canada Homes. The money will go to transitional housing and wraparound services – personalized supports that aim to address overlapping issues — in Winnipeg, and to building 2,000 new transitional and permanent supportive housing units in the city.

I think it’ll be easier to go after corporate landlords than individuals who got their life savings tied into 1 or 2 houses. Far more of those homeowners will support the policy if they’re assured they aren’t being targeted for having a networth of 6 or 7 figures.
I know for a fact that corporations are sitting on empty properties instead of lowering rents. Governments at all levels are letting it happen when homelessness is at the highest we’ve seen in our lives.
The worst thing will be to go after random middle class landlords. They aren’t the ones causing most harm, if any. But they do vote and will vote against getting treated the same as corporate landlords.
Oh Corporations should not own homes. But neither should foreign buyers who don’t actually live in the country. They obviously have a home elsewhere, and are treating as an investment.
