Two years ago i shared this website where you try and determine when a shade is either blue or green.
Posting it again because lemmy has grown quite a bit since then, maybe we have more people that havent tried it!
Love it. Need more silly things like this!
Oh, and

Is this bad

No, its Turquoise.
Yeah the phrasing on this is odd. If turquoise (or cyan) is an even mix of blue and green, this is really a test to determine how closely you can identify when blue and green have a 50-50 mix.
From About on site:
Who made this?
I’m Patrick Mineault, a neuroscience and AI researcher. I made this as a side project using Claude 3.5 Sonnet. I obtained a PhD in visual neuroscience from McGill in 2014. You can read my blog here.
Tbh there’s a wide range I could say it’s blue or green.
I am color blind and they all started to look the same after about the 3rd one.
Also colorblind. It looks like the overwhelming majority of people are wrong about blue!

I got the exact same result as OP.
Interestingly, I tried it on a Korean friend, and they got 194. Koreans are always calling colors I consider green, blue.
Wait…I got that backwards
Had a blue light filter on…
I’m firmly in the “turquoise is blue” camp.
I can’t use it on my phone since the buttons are under the Firefox UI. 🙁
First try.

I routinely disagree with people about whether things are pink/purple or blue/green.
I will tell myself “language is for communicating, this color is called pink by everybody else, I should remember that”, no use.
It’s a strange quirk of language and perception.
Wouldn’t this very much depend how color accurate your screen is?
Color accuracy is not even close to consistent between screens and manufacturers.
Yes. Really only good to do as compared to someone else physically in room with you. Ambient lighting could make a difference too. Nonetheless curious how much variance people’s scores are across devices.
My boundaries is at hue 180. I don’t remember my result from last time but neither do I remember my screen settings.
The thing is name of color depend on the language, frontiers and inbetweens varie from individual even in a given language.
In french, I would refer to “turquoise” as a light blue having yellow in it but not enough to be consider green. But I also use “vert turquoise” to describe a light blue that have just enough yellow to be considered a green.
I feel like in english “turquoise” refers to this second color rather than the first. I always feels like what is presented to my in english as “turquoise” has more yellow than a french “turquoise” but again. I would sometimes say “bleu turquoise” refering to that french “turquoise” to disambiguate from two very close hue which are to me two different colors. Can I just say, I love your website. I use it so often when I’m alongside groups of creatives. Of course different screen calibrations will display the colours differently, but I love using one device and going through with my friends to see where other peoples blue range lies in comparison to mine. Its a great tool. Would love to see it with different colour ranges like yellow to green as well! ♥️
thanks for the kind words but sadly it’s not my website haha, just sharing it
