i actually like my Quest 2, for the simple fact that it can be stand-alone and used on my PC. it’s why I don’t immediately balk at the price of the Q3 like I did the PSVR2.

that said, I rarely, if ever use my Quest 2 nowadays. I got it at a reduced price from a friend (who gets motion sick, go figure) so I don’t feel much buyer’s remorse. But that’s different than at the $500 range. curious to see how it comes together.

    the backward compatibility is nice.

I really like mine, too. I got it as a gift back when it first came out, but definitely don’t use it as much as I used to. That’s partially due to the pandemic being less of a thing now + being generally busier. I really should get it out again soon… I especially enjoy the rhythm games like Synth Riders.

for me it’s space haha. i wrote a whole review on the quest and it’s kinda funny how much of a reminder it was of how much of a millennial I am. i can only use it in my own room, I don’t have a basement or dedicated space. so I have to play very stationary games, but if I’m gonna do that, why go through the effort for anything that isn’t like, half-life alyx?

i LOVE beat saber and Until You Fall though, they’re great cardio openers

Yeah - the Q2 price was going down fast, and then suddenly meta realised the metaverse is not the future and jacked up all the prices, so I got a metaverse subsidised marketing version and love it - but not /that/ much @___@

  • Quite interested to see some reviews of this device once it comes out. I’ve used the Quest 2 in the past and while it certainly is lacking compared to higher end models from other companies, the portability is king. It’s good to see the Quest 2 coming down in price after the price hike recently.

I’m not a fan of Meta but man was it difficult to beat that initial price of the Quest 2. Especially being able to connect to a PC, the price/performance was really good. I’ll be interested to see how this compares, since I still have a lot of VR games I want to play.

Facebook are really keen to be the ones with the userbase for what they see as the future. It’s hard to think of facebook being unseated as the go-to platform for connecting with friends (probably easier for us to imagine, but still pretty hard). Facebook is king simply because they were the first to reach a critical mass.

They were losing money hand over first in the VR space just to try to be the top player with the biggest userbase in the VR space. I’m not sure if this is still true with the hiked price for the Quest 2. I haven’t really paid attention to the VR space for a few years but from the Steam hardware survey it seems ownership is holding steady at around 2%, so mass adoption seems a while away and I doubt the Quest 3 will change that.

  • I personally don’t own a VR headset, though I’ve tried numerous ones. I don’t know about anyone else, but I won’t trust a thing from Facebook aka Meta.

I’m personally waiting on Valve’s next rumored iteration. I will say that looking at this headset gives me more hope for VR in the future as it’s getting more powerful, more user friendly, slimmer, etc. Glad to see these companies haven’t just given up on VR.

Fun story: Facebook just decided my mom violated their policies because she was actually 13 years old. When this happened she was not able to prove her age and also she lost all her games and files from her Quest due to the accounts being tied together.
      Good times.

      • Hopefully she didn’t have a small business that completely depended on Facebook, or Twitter, or TikTok, as has happened so many times before.

These companies don’t care. And there’s 0 route to getting these things resolved as they’ve automated everything and rarely have anyone can help at all.

    • @SevenSwell @strudel6242 overall it is just very strange - I have Quest 2, Beat Saber is just killer app, but it does not have that much DLC. There are good apps there and here, but still majority of usage is on PC.
It is doing better than I thought it would as niche though. It is also well designed product overall, best thing that came out of all Metaverse fiasco.

  • I develop XR apps, so this is pretty exciting news. Looks like it will be significantly less clunky than the Pro (which is way too heavy, even for corporate use). I hope the latency and distortion for the color pass through has improved. The pass through on the Pro has weird distortions and color shifts. It feels a lot like being very drunk.

Say what you want about Meta but no other headset is even close to quality of the Quest headset line. Exciting for this one even if my Quest 1 is gathering mold somewhere in a drawer.

The full color passthrough is really interesting. I’d love a Tilt Brush like app that integrates with this so you can draw and model around real objects.
