Played through the game a year ago, being interested in the 2d Zelda-esque gameplay.

It’s now among my all-time favourites. I still play it from time to time. Really excited for Project Terra!

  • The game is just wonderful. Gameplay, style, lore, story, quests, dialogs - all done very well. It has a certain nice unique feel to it too - reminiscent of a lot of old (J)RPGs, but also fresh. The only drawback is that it can be pretty hard at certain points, but it’s also part of the charm. You try, learn, overcome and end up satisfied. Having said that, I actually play this game in several week sessions switching to something else in between them cause I become irritated by hard parts after some time. Still have to finish A New Home DLC. But it’s always great to come back when there’s nothing interesting to play. Feels like home, a lot like Death Stranding in that sense

  • Obligatory, “Hi! Lea! Bye!”

I love CrossCode. A great mix of combat and puzzles, and the story is pretty good (if a bit cliche at times). I also appreciated the risk-reward of chaining enemies for more experience and loot. If anyone has played the base game but didn’t try the A New Home content, I really recommend going through that too, both for the story closure but also the great final temple/dungeon and the Arena.

  • Started playing with no expectations and was blown away by the art style and the dungeons. Definitely would recomend to anyone looking for that Zelda style Dungeon and exploration

      • I’d say old school. The puzzles and dungeon designs remind me most of A Link To The Past. However, there’s a focus on throwing spheres to ricochet off walls (as that’s the basis of the game’s combat). So instead of having an arsenal of weapons (sword, boomerang, bombs, arrows, etc.), it’s more about tossing balls to manipulate other objects equivalent to those items in each dungeon room.

For example, when you get the Fire element you can imbue your spheres to melt ice blocks, and also to launch bomb orbs further than regular spheres.

        • Yeah, oldschool 2D for sure where you get introduced to a few mwchanics and given a new tool (sphere element) to complete the dungeon and beat the boss. I don’t even consider the dungeons in BotW/TotK to be the main levels in the games, as they are more about open world exploration

    • Definitely not an easy game, that’s for sure. Personally though, I greatly enjoyed the whole thing from start to finish (did most sidequests even!)

There is assist mode in the settings if it seems too hard, and aiming is easier on a keyboard and mouse if you play on pc, though I used a controller myself.

  • It’s crazy, I have 80 hours in this game and love it a lot but never came close to finishing it.

I picked it up in Early Access and went all the way to the frost dungeon, which was where content ended.

I picked it up on release and played up until the desert dungeon, then stopped playing because I got busy.

I the picked it up like 2 years later and forgot where I stopped or what I was doing. I want to play it again but I feel like I need to start a new game again.

    • Very common issue with long games unfortunately. I’ve done the same with Omori, Hollow Knight, and some others.

I finally managed to play the entirety of Hollow Knight from the beginning though, and will do the same with Omori soon hopefully. I don’t think there’s a solution for this.

      • Even Hollow Knight is pretty manageable I think. CrossCode is a huge RPG with tons of sidequests and very big areas. It’s not a bad thing, but man do I not have the time to enjoy it all!

    • I feel like this is actually a case where the game lets you get back up to speed reasonably well. It keeps a log of recent dialogue, the story summary in the journal is quite detailed, and the open world provides a good environment to get back up to speed with the combat.

I have a weird relationship with this game where I really love it but at the same time it took so much time and mental energy that I’m not sure if i ever actually finished it. I would have preferred if it was a more condensed experience with the same core.

  • It looks really interesting but it seems very inspired by JRPGs, and I’m not really a fan of those. I’m afraid I could get bored by endless repetitive dialogue and other shenanigans of the genre

  • I’m torn on CrossCode. On one hand, I think it’s massively underrated, on the other, oh my god it just goes and goes and goes and goes and goes and goes and goes and goes and goes and goes and goes and goes and goes and goes and

Needless to say I haven’t come anywhere close to finishing it and I think it outstays it’s welcome.

  • Really enjoyed playing cross code. The side quests were well made and music was great. I had some difficulty with A New Home dlc final boss, but generally was fine otherwise. I loved the multi layer terrain exploration!

  • Great combat, puzzles and beautiful sprite based graphics. A compelling story with well written and interesting characters that really grow on you as you play. I went into not expecting much but absolutely fell in love with it. Highly recommend it.

  • One of my all time favorites, which makes it a little embarrassing that I still haven’t finished the expansion. I tried A New Home when it came out but it was brutally difficult, at least with the gear I had and jumping back in after not playing for a while. I think I’m due a replay soon and will do the dlc with it all in one go.
