Corroded ( @CorrodedCranium@leminal.space ) English56•11 months agoI think that’s the final nail in the coffin for me.
I would like to mention Eternity is being made as fork from Infinity.
They have a community you can find here:
For more information and updates but their Codeberg page can be found here. You can also find downloads of the latest version there. I think they mentioned trying to get it on F-Droid at some point like Infinity is.
Clav64 ( @Clav64@lemmy.ml ) 13•11 months agoEternity is on f-droid, if you add the izzydroid repo.
frozen ( @frozen@lemmy.frozeninferno.xyz ) 12•11 months agoEven better than F-Droid is Obtainium. Get apps right from the repo release page, no waiting for F-Droid to recompile.
Jordan Lund ( @jordanlund@lemmy.one ) English33•11 months agoANYTHING for reddit is still working??
Vent ( @Vent@lemm.ee ) 12•11 months agoYou can patch some reddit apps like Sync and use your own api key. Even if you don’t browse reddit, it’s nice to be able to open the occasional link in a pleasing UI.
lowleveldata ( @lowleveldata@programming.dev ) 3•11 months agohmm why don’t they add a setting for user to enter their keys then?
Because its against the rules
lowleveldata ( @lowleveldata@programming.dev ) 7•11 months agoWhat rules? Why does reddit generate API keys for the users if they are not allowed to use it?
db2 ( @db2@sopuli.xyz ) 16•11 months agoBecause Steve is a moron.
30p87 ( @30p87@feddit.de ) 7•11 months ago“Moron” would mean that that asshole did it by accident. Steve Huffman is a fucking, capitalistic greedy fucker and should be fired and deported to Apples HQ in Russia. Would be the perfect place for him.
TheGreenGolem ( @TheGreenGolem@lemm.ee ) 3•11 months agoI also don’t understand this. If I have my own, personal API key, and supposedly I can use it for free. Then if I write my own app, without releasing it on Play Store, I can’t use it with my own API key? Why not? Is there any mentioning of this explicitly against the rules?
Yes, check the TOS
Also you can’t have a part of the app that prompts a user to create a api key
Edit: I’m not sure if this is true after a few comments on reddit. I’ll see if I can get clarification from the dev
TheGreenGolem ( @TheGreenGolem@lemm.ee ) 1•10 months agoAfaik I can request my key on Reddit. Then I, all by myself, create an Android app for myself, completely from scratch, never release it to anywhere, just have it on my phone. So not Revance an existing , seriously program one from zero. It would be personal use, would it not?
Dharma Curious ( @DharmaCurious@startrek.website ) 6•11 months agoI still actively use infinity for my alt account. Once it’s gone, I guess that’s it for me for reddit. :/
Diabolo96 ( @Diabolo96@lemmy.dbzer0.com ) 6•11 months agoStealth and geddit both work for browsing only. Enjoy.
𝒍𝒆𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒏 ( @lemann@lemmy.one ) 2•10 months agoStealth scrapes old.reddit, doesn’t count 🤪
Diabolo96 ( @Diabolo96@lemmy.dbzer0.com ) 2•10 months agoIf it works it works.
magnetosphere ( @HappyMeatbag@beehaw.org ) English4•11 months agoI think Narwhal is, but I don’t remember the details. Ironically, that’s the app I used to use, but the fact that they caved in and are cooperating with reddit just makes it an even less appealing option.
Dave ( @Dave@lemmy.nz ) 4•11 months agoSome apps taking serious steps towards a subscription model have been granted extra time by reddit. There were conditions, but there were at least a few of them (Infinity and Relay are the ones that come to mind, but there was at least one more that I can’t remember right now).
𝑔𝑎𝑙𝑎𝑥𝑖 ( @galaxi@lemm.ee ) 3•11 months agoStealth, but you can’t contribute to the site (which is a benefit imo)
ragekage ( @ragekage@beehaw.org ) 2•11 months agoI still use rif with the patch method.
iamak ( @iamak@infosec.pub ) 22•11 months agoHow is it still working when other apps are dead?
They got an extension
iamak ( @iamak@infosec.pub ) 3•10 months agoOh wow. TIL
ollie ( @ollie@lemm.ee ) 10•11 months agowhere are you getting August 30th from?
nvm. lol you cant even see nsfw posts with the subscribed version. I don’t see why the Dev would even bother.
It was on a post on the subreddit
Black_Gulaman ( @Black_Gulaman@lemmy.dbzer0.com ) 3•11 months agoSo the plan for the subscription route is scrapped?
XPost3000 ( @XPost3000@lemmy.ml ) 8•11 months agoNope
Black_Gulaman ( @Black_Gulaman@lemmy.dbzer0.com ) 4•11 months agoAh, I see. So they’re still pushing on.
XPost3000 ( @XPost3000@lemmy.ml ) 2•11 months agoYup
LostDeer ( @LostDeer@infosec.pub ) English2•11 months agoSo for the subscription cost you get to keep using infinity on reddit and see no ads? Also, not being able to see posts marked nsfw is missing out on a lot (I’m not referring to porn) so you’re stuck using the default app anyway so I don’t understand why the dev is pushing forward with it outside of maybe they see it as a passive income stream.
The new subscription will require the proprietary version from the play store.
No but it involves proprietary software which I can not support. Not to mention reddit could just kill it anytime
Renny Protogenny ( @Getallen@feddit.nl ) 8•10 months agoInfinity taking a few months to die gave me the time to get my alternatives ready: Lemmy, general usage. GBATemp, gaming stuff and jailbreaks. Mastodon, off topic stuff.
ArcaneSlime ( @ArcaneSlime@lemmy.dbzer0.com ) 1•10 months agoThanks for the heads up on gbatemp.
StarkillerX42 ( @StarkillerX42@lemmy.ml ) 2•10 months agoI’m greatful for the extra couple months. It gave Lemmy time to grow before I have to 100% commit to leaving Reddit.
