Warning to all Brave Browser Users
Blocking variations.brave.com which is used for A/B testing could potentially break Brave’s functionalities. For me did Brave’s “forgetful browsing” feature broke which seems to be disabled by default if you block this domain.

You really just shouldn’t use brave…
- Possibly linux ( @possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip ) English16•1 year ago
Its better than Chrome, Edge, and any other proprietary spyware browser
- the_lone_wolf ( @the_lone_wolf@lemmy.ml ) 44•1 year ago
Firefox based browsers exits and if you need chromium based there are also other degooled browser available.
- Possibly linux ( @possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip ) English4•1 year ago
True but don’t you think brave is better than chrome?
- zzzzz ( @zzzzz@beehaw.org ) 2•1 year ago
Yes, but when good options exist, why give thought to which bad option is less bad?
- Possibly linux ( @possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip ) English1•1 year ago
Because we need less google control. Also brave is pretty user friendly
- zzzzz ( @zzzzz@beehaw.org ) 2•1 year ago
Firefox is the good option. It is not controlled by Google.
- gwheel ( @gwheel@lemm.ee ) English2•1 year ago
Brave is chromium based, which gives Google control over web standards.

- Possibly linux ( @possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip ) English6•1 year ago
It falls in the proprietary category
- Zastyion345 ( @Zastyion345@lemmy.ml ) 1•1 year ago
Didn’t they announce that they are source available?
- Possibly linux ( @possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip ) English6•1 year ago
Its still not Foss. Unless its under a free software license its a hard no for me.
At least its not chrome though
- Catsrules ( @Catsrules@lemmy.ml ) 14•1 year ago
Do you think we are not Brave enough.
Sorry… I will see myself out.
@eya May I ask why you think that? I their afe good reasons to don’t use Firefox either…
- Katlah ( @eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com ) English63•1 year ago
Brave is an ad company. Use a privacy-centric browser like hardened firefox, librewolf, or ungoogled chromium.
Edit: added a comma
- anothermember ( @anothermember@beehaw.org ) 14•1 year ago
You’d need a very good reason to not use Firefox given that it’s all that stands against a Google monopoly on web standards. I was using a Chromium-based browser myself until Opera and Microsoft both abandoned their own browser engines - after that I couldn’t possibly justify not supporting Firefox.
- IronKrill ( @IronKrill@lemmy.ca ) 11•1 year ago
Can we not downvote genuine questions like this? All you do is discourage people wanting to learn and make it harder for people that think differently than you to see arguments against them.
Save the downvotes for rude or bad faith comments.
@IronKrill Thats the same thing I think abt you guys, but alright.
- IronKrill ( @IronKrill@lemmy.ca ) 5•1 year ago
I wasn’t sure how to word my reply, but I was referring to all the people downvoting your response and not you. Unsure if that came across.
- Katlah ( @eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com ) English2•1 year ago
I have made an entire post detailing (some) of the reasons why you shouldn’t use Brave.
so what you want people to use opera or Chromnius
- Katlah ( @eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com ) English32•1 year ago
Use a fork of firefox
- FeelzGoodMan420 ( @FeelzGoodMan420@eviltoast.org ) English12•1 year ago
Or just use firefox?
- Katlah ( @eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com ) English1•1 year ago
Stock Firefox is almost as bad as Google Chrome
- FeelzGoodMan420 ( @FeelzGoodMan420@eviltoast.org ) English1•1 year ago
Idk wtf you’re saying. You mean stock firefox as in firefox with no settings changed? If so, it’s not great but in no way as bad as chrome. That’s just a ridiculous statement. That being said, hardened Firefox is fine and it’s not very hard to do. By harden i mean common sense tweaks. I don’t use arkenfox or anything. I think it’s overkill at that point.
- Katlah ( @eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com ) English2•1 year ago
I wouldn’t say arkenfox is overkill. It’s the easiest way to get rid of all the spyware that comes with Firefox by default.
- FeelzGoodMan420 ( @FeelzGoodMan420@eviltoast.org ) English1•1 year ago
What spyware…
on mobile yes same for brave but much much less
- Katlah ( @eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com ) English14•1 year ago
