PenguinCoder ( @Penguincoder@beehaw.org ) English16•2 years agoIs this a bot account? Living up to the username for sure.
CoderKat ( @CoderKat@beehaw.org ) English8•2 years agoThe heck? I didn’t get it at first, but I looked at this in a Lemmy instance and the OP name is different? On kbin, OP is xtremeownage. But on the original instance, their username somehow shows up as HTTP_404_NotFound, but still links as xtremeownage.
Does Lemmy have some sorta different display name vs username thing?
Mars7x ( @Mars7x@beehaw.org ) English6•2 years agoYeah, you can change your display name in your account settings.
realChem ( @realChem@beehaw.org ) English5•2 years agoTheir actual username is xtremeownage, which is why it still links that way, but lemmy lets users set a display name that’s different from their username (in this case, HTTP_404_NotFound). Sounds like kbin doesn’t respect lemmy display name settings.
Paige (she/her) ( @PaigePalisade@lemmy.blahaj.zone ) English4•2 years agoyes, that is a feature of Lemmy
Mallard ( @Mallard@beehaw.org ) English3•2 years agoThat’s the difference between username and display name.
My username is Mallard, which shows up as @Mallard, and I’ve set my display name as Mallard too, which shows up as Mallard (without the @).
russjr08 ( @russjr08@outpost.zeuslink.net ) English1•2 years agoDoes Lemmy have some sorta different display name vs username thing?
Yep, if you go into your settings (since you’re on beehaw, that should be https://beehaw.org/settings) you’ll be able to set a display name there!
hawkwind ( @hawkwind@lemmy.management ) English12•2 years agoCame here to post! Beat me to it.
I think it’s geography based. Works for me from the west coast (usa) but not the east. :(
Only found out because coincidentally DEVOPS IS GITHUB. So yea, I guess add another non-critical thing to the playbook.
pizza_rolls ( @pizza_rolls@kbin.social ) 3•2 years agoIt was down for me on the west coast, maybe you just missed it.
Also thanks Microsoft
thingsiplay ( @thingsiplay@beehaw.org ) English11•2 years agoThe good thing with Git is, that many people have copies of the entire project history. This is a backup and people can still work on the project until servers are up again.
TriLevelSync ( @TriLevelSync@kbin.social ) 6•2 years agoFor codebases yes. The issue I got locked out of today is Guthub’s container registry and couldn’t pull any images.
anlumo ( @anlumo@feddit.de ) English4•2 years agoIt also makes migrating a project to another git hosting service easy. The only problem for us were the tickets.
moon_matter ( @moon_matter@kbin.social ) 1•2 years agoThat should’ve been a git repo, just like the wiki. I imagine major projects are backing them up or mirroring them somewhere else. It’s not the first time this has come up.
anlumo ( @anlumo@feddit.de ) 1•2 years agoThat would also make it easy to globally track changes.
mobyduck648 ( @mobyduck648@beehaw.org ) English3•2 years agoGit is one of those things I’m really happy is the norm rather than something worse than it.
