Yeah this is the main reason I won’t be giving up reddit 100% once the 3rd party apps go down. I definitely won’t be doom scrolling on my phone like I used to, but I 100% will still use reddit on my desktop as a research tool. There’s just nothing else like it for the amount of quality niche information atm.
I didn’t realize they got renewed for 2 seasons already, nice!
Definitely an influx of users from reddit today. Honestly I’m impressed it’s holding up as well as it is atm. It’s a bit slower than usual, taking 3-5 seconds to load posts, but everything is still working 👍
Beautiful! I’m curious, how much carpentry and plumbing experience do you have? Looks like a pro job from here :)
I saw how long the list is and got kinda concerned I might miss out on content since I’m on beehaw, but now it just sounds like I’m getting sheltered from all the internet wackjobs lol
One instance might have separate rules than another, so you can use multiple to get around that. Also if one instance gets shutdown for whatever reason you’ll need another instance to browse through.
Generally though, no. One instance is fine and helps keep the system from getting overloaded with users.
I’m just going to sub to all of them so I don’t miss any content
!chat@beehaw.org could be good here too, if the goal is to spark a discussion.
I’ve been slowly switching away from google products the past year or so. Switched from chrome to firefox, and google search to duckduckgo, but maps is one I couldn’t give up. It’s just better than all other competitors IMO.
^ This is it. I was attempting to go there by typing the URL directly, not via searching. I’ve been able to get to a couple more via this method now, thanks!
if ur struggling try wiggling your finger around while its up there. if that doesn’t work try a 2nd or 3rd finger
Yeah, it’s a dangerous virus, but not widespread. When I looked into it, it was just a dozen of mods that I’ve never even heard of. Seems like it was caught before any major damage was made.
There are a couple now, but still very small, like 3 posts a day small
Yeah that’s not happening. The tech differences add up to a horrid VR experience. Google cardboard was exactly this project, but it was burned because it was just plain bad. Phones aren’t meant to be glued to your face, but VR headsets are built for it specifically and the difference is immense.
I’ve also been having some issues today connecting to @midwest.social. I was able to browse earlier today, but now cannot connect directly. I suspect it’s something server side with DNS, or its a load issue from too many users.
That said, the actual content is still there if you access it from another server, like https://lemmy.ml/c/main@midwest.social
Yes! hoping it can grow more active, especially as reddit users migrate due to the API stuff
I was an alpha tester for new reddit before it was publicly pushed. There was a private sub for it and plenty of ppl saying everything that was bad and needed changing. Admins were very receptive to any suggestions, but slowly everyone realized they didn’t want to change anything, despite saying otherwise. The “finished” new reddit was nearly identical, and still garbage to use. I switched to old.reddit within a few days.
I expect most of the content to be saved at some point before reddit fully dies. Many sites from the early 2000’s no longer exist, but there are backups of forums online all over the place
Yeah but if this is what it takes to get a recipe search result that isnt 50 ads and a 5 page essay before the actual content, I ain’t going to complain.
