And certainly some argument such as “more eyes” can be a valid part of the overall discussion.

For myself, I would counter that posting YT links in a privacy focused community is defeatist in nature. Literally rewarding a platform, influencers that actually have no genuine interest in the topic, other than they found a new crowd they can cash in upon.

Obviously I didn’t watch, but informed guess – the video was 10 times longer than it needed to be, filled with fluff to fit in ever more commercials and/or inline promotions?

Does anyone interested in privacy not know TVs are invasive & nasty?

Perhaps. So start a topic upon it, without feeding the beast you wish to slay. Its truly a good discussion. And much valuable input from those who have confronted it can be shared.

I do agree, phones are horrific, and none of my crowd cares about privacy. Running a degoogled OS, no microG, no play store, only open source apps. We all try to take whatever steps we can, and its not easy, including changing ones online habits, usually the biggest obstacle. Which makes putting YT links in these privacy forums insulting.

Seriously. That is my (unpopular) opinion. I call it my ongoing journey to walk the walk best as able.

One can be offended, or reflect upon their habits effecting real change. I’ll end my rants on this topic now. Cheers, mate!

And if you click the YT link, Google is spying on you. Sad no alternative is given, but that would hurt the bottom line, right?

Its quite nice on a pi5. Paired it running VPN, and control d private dns (set using adb) for tracker/ad blocking. Side note, over 50% blocking shows how much spyware crap going on with tv apps. Add in a cheap Bluetooth air mouse and its very workable & solid.

For clarity, I only run Pluto TV, tubi, pipepipe and Fred TV. And its NOT for those looking for the smoothest experience, may not be family friendly . But been using a few years now, couldn’t be happier

Been trialing Ubuntu Touch and looks great, solid moves forward. The UI flow is not my fav, but ok with compromises. But yes, in a world where we will need the browser to replace our apps, that is such a centerpiece. As well I wish to be able to use a system wide custom DNS like control D or nextdns for safety. Hopes for all these to keep on getting better

Migrated to Keepass shortly before the price increase ( not because of it) just for the reason of wanting my vault fully offline. Seeing these changes at BW still makes me sad, was a long time paying user & truly enjoyed it

Keepass is fantastiic, my vault is pretty static so just manually copy to other device as needed. And of course, have your full backup plan in place as with all things

The e/os Advanced Privacy feature is very nice, great way to see which apps have tracker whilst blocking them. Same as running DNS filters but built in experience, easy to view

In itself LOS is fantastic but needs be combined with something like reThinkDNS or another DNS filtering option

Rethink on LOS is fantastic, in particular if you can do the whitelist method - block everything by default, and permit only that which you approve. Takes some time & effort but great control is the reward

I prefer layers, example LOS w/rethink DNS all going thru Control D or NextDNS with Hagezi lists enabled

Overkill? Perhaps , but I love the reporting , helps in learning what’s going on, and apps/sites to be avoided

Posteo has been fantastic for me, but no bring your own domain as some have mentioned a deal breaker if that’s your bag

Super cheap, unsure on any political stances but they embrace being green / sustainable so that’s usually a give away :)

Use it with betterbird and Thunderbird android just works great

Similar. Just months ago moved from BW to KeePassXC and android equiv

Nothing bad say about Bitwarden its fantastic & served me well, but wanted to go fully offline

Manually updating the phone is not nearly the deal I thought would be, as my logins fairly static & use my phone as little as possible for most items where logins needed

Of course each of us has separate use cases, but +1 for KeePass really like it

I use only atomic distros now and could not be happier.

Presently using Fedora Atomic Cosmic, it’s minimal, stable, quite beauttiful and does everytihng I need it to. Just as Silverblue did for a long time, just thought I’d switch it up and trial Cosmic long use. I imagine my needs are less than some, am not a gamer

The only package I layer is Opensnitch. Flatpaks and a couple appimages covers all else,

I have no idea what customization or anything else I am told I’m missing out on, and that’s fine by me, guess better I can’t miss what I don’t need ;) For me personally, 100% feature complete. Though I would guess gaming needs would be a different situtation/needs, so cannot comment on that
