Europe@feddit.org•€37 trillion sitting idle: Why are Europeans afraid to invest?English
9·2 months agoTo me the problem is ideological. If you buy the a world ETF - like WEBG - 60% of the stocks in it are American. You read all the news about those companies being shitty and yet to get the best return on your income you need to invest in them.
There’s also CEUG (EU stocks without “unsustainable” companies, from European company Amundi) but then you balance with other regions and it’s “wrong” to have 100% home bias.
I remember once a night train startup mailed me that they are issuing bonds to help fund opening new connections. That was cool, as opposed to investing in Nvidia. Then again, investing with your heart is not the most minmaxed, so it’s wrong.

Buy European@feddit.uk•Where British heritage brands actually manufactureEnglish
1·2 months agoYeah “just one line made in UK” is a common theme - Baracuta, Gola too. I feel like the easiest way to buy European clothes is to dress like you live in the 50s:
- welted shoes - e.g. Crockett & Jones, Goral, Trickers (?). Though that’s doing good across the board in Europe - TLB, Carmina, Berwick, Vass, J.M. Weston, Paraboot
- shetland sweaters: Jamiesons, Harley of Scotland, Bosie, William Lockie, Howlin
Also not strictly related and more US-centric article about running shoes (link to table with which running shoe brands own factories rather than subcontracting the manufacturing out): https://www.worseonpurpose.com/p/same-shoe-different-factory#who-actually-makes-their-own-shoes - NB also has a UK factory

Europe@feddit.org•Polish soldiers now able to collect uniforms from parcel lockersEnglish
3·2 months agoIn the Polish sources I see they use “magazyn wojskowy” (EN: military depot) so it’s not like a private store selling military supplies, it’s a dedicated facility ran by the military with equipment staff present. Not sure if they’re always on base grounds.

Europe@feddit.org•Polish soldiers now able to collect uniforms from parcel lockersEnglish
4·2 months agoIt’s about the method of delivery, not who pays for it. I imagine some soldiers may live far enough from the closest military store that it’d be a hassle.
Soldiers in Poland will be able to pick up their uniforms from their nearest parcel locker rather than having to collect them from military stores
The article also says it covers other types of equipment, so you don’t have to go to the military store for every little thing.

Europe@feddit.org•Serbia: Protests continue after Vucic says he will step downEnglish
11·3 months agoWould be great if Orban and Vucic fell in the same year, but as the video in the article says - the Serbian elections will probably happen at the end of 2027. Who resigns and says “I will be president for a few more weeks” rather than giving a concrete date? And how is lying about resignation going to help calm down the protests

I like Intimissimi Uomo’s designs but they don’t produce in Europe. Colorful Standard is nice. There’s CDLP if on sale.
