Why did Alan Turing commit suicide?

I miss Christopher Hitchens.
“Find a society that’s adopted the teachings of Spinoza, Voltaire, Galileo, Einstein, Thomas Paine, Thomas Jefferson and gone down the pits—as a result of doing that—into famine and war and dictatorship and torture and repression. That’s the experiment I would like to run. I don’t think that’s going to end up with a gulag.” ―Christopher Hitchens (1949 – 2011)

Good film. Not really uncomfortable psychologically, but definitely gastronomically. Ugh. The analogy with consumerism is spot on. Thanks again for both suggestions.

Expected Man Bites Dog to be average, but goddamn this is some excellent film making and acting.

Still Lake Ontario here.

Have you tried Chrome Mask?

Just watched it again because I forgot everything. What a ride.

Depressing, yes, among my all time favourite films. However, for me it’s not psychologically tormenting like a claustrophobic person that goes spelunking.

Just watched it. Didn’t feel uncomfortable but excellent movie. Thank you.

Never heard of this and I’m Belgian. Noted. Thank you!

A Serbian Film
Yeah, folks, don’t watch this on a first date. However, to me it’s not as psychologically uncomfortable probably because it’s so unrelatable or near impossible to happen in real life. What makes a great psychological thriller/horror is when the viewer knows it could happen to them.

Had to watch the trailer to recall The Killing of a Sacred Deer, I must’ve repressed the awkwardness of that kid. Beau is Afraid I’ve seen recently. Good, but didn’t do it for me. Adding Be My Cat: A Film For Anne to the list. Much appreciated!

Yeah, I particularly loved Idioterne. However, Trier’s films didn’t make me uncomfortable.

This. I.e., there is no correct answer.

Exactly! It felt like “Eureka!” when I read this article for the first time.

Panem et circenses is how my country is doing.

Hocus Pocus - Focus. Thanks for the reminder, one of the best songs ever.
My website’s domain name https://www.arscyni.cc/ is inspired by him and his fellow Cynics. Highly recommend their books written by Robin Hard.
To those who also feel remarkably amicable towards Diogenes/Epictetus, or any other Cynic, I’ve made an Ars Cynica chat group on Fluxer [a Discord lookalike, but superior and not corporate]. It used to have active members on Telegram but deleted it because the platform became bloated crypto crap.
