While that is true, there have been many discussions about if there are any known security vulnerabilities or new spec changes that would cause a problem. The consensus from the community is that it is safe to use for quite some time. Not invalidating your points in any way just putting out what I know.

Personally I would use andOTP on my mobile with backups and use OTPClient on my computer. I don’t like having my 2 factor auth stored in the same system as my passwords. Because if the password manager was ever lost or stolen you’d have all your eggs in one basket essentially.

Open Source@lemmy.ml•Any open source wrapper for Facebook Messenger?
1·2 years agoA while back I used to use Frost on Android. At the time it supported all aspects of Facebook including the marketplace and messenger

Linux@lemmy.ml•Tabby: A terminal for a more modern ageEnglish
2·2 years agoCool project. I’m personally not a fan of using a terminal written in a web centric paradigm.
So here’s another homelab sin I committed… I dont use rails. I stead I buy these adjustable universal shelves that get installed like rails. Why? Because all my servers are second hand and require proprietary mounting rails. The dell server rails are way more expensive than they need to be haha

Open Source@lemmy.ml•What open source Android browser app to use?
3·2 years agoI’ve used ice raven and mull!
Looks pretty nice. I’m in the process of doing the same. One bit of annoyance is that I have a half length cabinet but one of my servers is full length.

Self Hosted - Self-hosting your services.@lemmy.ml•[Question] External access for my networkEnglish
3·2 years agoSo really you have a decision to make here. Will you always have access to the VPN when you want to use those services. I suspect the answer is no in practicality. So I prefer to use something like Cloudflare tunnels to provide secure access to my network resources I’m choosing to share. I dont have to worry about ever use and every device always using a VPN. That’s just my preference though. It should be noted that I believe video and audio streaming is still against thr ToS for cloudflare tunnels. So for those applications I night use a different strategy like a VPN or wireguard.
Ok I see it now. For anyone else wondering, you have to search for something else first to get to the more advanced search options. Also if you’re using the jerboa app, it doesnt currently support this. I suspect many apps don’t at the moment yet either. Thank you for explaining!

3·2 years agoI’ve heard good things about cloudflares domain registrar services. I can’t vouch for them but when I looked at transferring my domains, their prices were very competitive and sometimes cheaper than the average.
Ubisoft is just the same game in a different skin at this point. Their launcher is terrible. I only have it be a use they sometimes have incredible sales on their own franchises. And I really only buy them once they’re heavily on sale.
Proxmox for VMs. Fedora on my personal workhorse laptop. Arch for my PineTab 2

4·3 years agoHow did you manage to get selenium working with Amazon!? I can’t get it to work well. Amazon always thinks I’m a bot and blocks access. Which is right but still.
If you’re counting Surface RT then yes. I have tried Ubuntu mate and postmarketos on it. I would say don’t bother 😜

Technology•Apple reveals “Reality Pro” AR/VR headset, available for $3,499 “early next year”
10·3 years agoWow that’s an insane price tag for most people. It definitely has some promising hype but we also saw nothing real in their ad reel. I’d like to see real hands on reviews. I’m not really into the AR thing. I don’t have an interest loving my life inside goggles. I do think movies and photos have a great use case though.

This. I can’t even get most people to switch from WhatsApp to Signal. Because everyone is already on WhatsApp so it just works for them.
