also consider that if you are a cis guy being called something you don’t really align with can be a fun novelty as a rare thing but as a woman being referred to with male default language /all/ the time by mostly men becomes eventually pretty grating (and having to either put up with the mild annoyance every time or having to speak up and have it be a “thing” with every new guy calling you dude or bro is just irritating in the way a refrigerator making a quiet but annoying whining buzz all the time might be.)

not all supportive communities are toxically positive, and any community as obsessed with “passing” as 4chan might feel comforting in a doomery way but anecdotally every single trans person i know who went down the (smug and self reinforcing) self hating 4chan path has been noticably worse for it and every single one who nanaged to escape that spiral talks exclusively about it as something they regret

for the record, i do get the appeal - it /feels/ like it’s just painful honesty and, when you are used to not flinching away from painful truths about the word and the systems which shape it, it can feel correct that it should hurt to be trans (especially if you don’t “pass”). the problem is that, in my view, much of the painfulness of being trans or feeling like you don’t “pass” is directed at trans people by cis people - we don’t need to do it for them. you don’t have to set up a headquarters for the passing police in your own head. to not do so isn’t to become part of a “hugbox” - you can be honest and just not police (even when invited to do so) how other people and you yourself align with social expectations of the physical (and other) expressions of gender.

fuck that person for not understanding and me for getting carried away and writing too much; i just hope you aren’t embracing and perpetuating a community that feels comforting but is doing harm to you because that harm feels more correct to you than being truly and honestly accepted

i am glad you are enjoying it. like i said though, i prefer cachy as a project more than other arch wrappers because it adds more of substance beyond an easier (or prettier) installer

i started off using ubuntu back in the day, but these days i refuse to use any of the distros downstream or tied to a for profit company (so not fedora, opensuse, or ubuntu - and by extension mint), and i prefer distros that are used as the base for other distros rather that ones dependant on another distro (so extra not mint, ubuntu, endeavour, or manjaro).

that leaves, essentially, slackware, arch, and debian.
i am too lazy to learn slackware, so for my main desktop i use arch and for other machines i own i use debian.

departing from the original question:
for new people i mostly recommend cachyos, debian, or bazzite depending on their ability & interest

i feel that, unlike the other ‘arch but easier’ distros, cachy actually adds something to the arch ecosystem (the optimized packages) and the installer showing videos of the different desktop environments all running on cachy is excellent

not seeing anything when searching for it, do you have a link? looking on the github it’s still merged so it’s difficult to believe
