It’s easier with those for whom you maintain their phone. Mostly parents, grandparents and older locals, but that’s something too. You just install F-droid and then the app you need. If their system is recent enough, F-droid can even automatically update the apps, but that’s true even if it is older but also rooted and you can install the f-droid privileged extension
