EDIT: looks like they’re back.

This is the moment in Scooby-Doo where the gang unmasks the person they’ve just caught and underneath is just the Microsoft Bing logo
- DerisionConsulting ( @DerisionConsulting@lemmy.ca ) English55•1 month ago
yes, everyone on earth.
Bing API is down, which has killed some things.

Microsoft’s Bing API services (the source of DuckDuckGo’s search data) went down at approx 3am ET and has not yet returned to service. Bing, DuckDuckGo, CoPilot, ChatGPT and more are unable to use the Bing services so in turn are also not working or not working fully.

Ecosia was affected too. It’s Bing with trees.
- /home/pineapplelover ( @pineapplelover@lemm.ee ) 2•1 month ago
Thought it was google with trees

That’s sad, since one would logically expect any AI to get better if it loses access to Bing search results.

Time to ditch duckduckBing
- WreckingBANG ( @WreckingBANG@lemmy.ml ) 27•1 month ago
Why? Because it is down or because you just noticed that is is basicly just a Bing-Proxy?
- land ( @land@lemmy.ml ) 6•1 month ago
It’s my backup search engine. I use Brave and Searx as the main search engines.

I was wondering why Ecosia didn’t give me any search results yesterday. Well, now I know.
- 乇ㄥ乇¢ㄒ尺ㄖ ( @electro1@infosec.pub ) 4•1 month ago
why don’t they just build their own indexer and AI crawler… Brave is newer yet surpassed both of them
- GolfNovemberUniform ( @GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml ) 2•1 month ago
Yes. It even interrupted a flashing procedure of a device of mine and almost bricked it
- Possibly linux ( @possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip ) English3•1 month ago
Wait what?
- GolfNovemberUniform ( @GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml ) 1•1 month ago
The flashing app detected the device. The next step was downloading firmware and it was stuck on it for minutes (usually it takes a second or two). I almost ended up rebooting the device (which could absolutely brick it) but fortunately it found the firmware. Then I tested DDG to see if it was up. I don’t really remember if it was but I think it was working for a few seconds
- Possibly linux ( @possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip ) English4•1 month ago
Why was it pulling firmware from Bing? That’s seems strange
- Possibly linux ( @possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip ) English2•1 month ago
Its a known issue
