Two University of Leicester students speak out over ‘absurd’ and ‘Orwellian’ decision by the BBC and ITV Studios to edit out pride pins worn on University Challenge
“what has the BBC ever done for me”
It’s part of their campaign to try and beg people not to abandon the licence fee.
So, what has the BBC done for me?
Erased my culture. There.
I hate those ads with a burning passion! What has the BBC ever done?
Provided transphobes with a platform. Downplayed Israel’s genocide. Provided Jimmy Savile with victims. I could go on…
The pride flag is being framed more and more as some kind of big and divisive political statement, while it shouldn’t be… But how do we respond to that? How does one defend against such framing?
You don’t. You make them defend why it’s divisive and why it’s a political statement.
You don’t engage them. Make them engage you.
Same way you deal with racist/sexist jokes. Make them explain what’s funny.
Or in the case of the pride flag, make them explain why it’s a bad thing? Which is when they’ll say it’s being forced upon them, and the woke agenda is pushed down everyone’s throat and whatever.
Which is also very hard to defend against… That is, I myself find it difficult to find something to say.
@toothpaste_sandwich @squirrel @CosmicTurtle0 @StabbingSky
I think you could tell them it is part of your free opinion stating (in german called “Freie Meinungsäußerung” which means you are allowed to say anything as long as it isn’t hate or damaging someones repututation.). And the core idea of “being forced on us” is wrong. Shure there are things some or most people do like misbehaving while driving cars, filming everything or smoking when it annoys everybody else. But wearing a pride flag1/2@toothpaste_sandwich @squirrel @CosmicTurtle0 @StabbingSky 2/2 doesn’t do harm when i see it and is no symbol of hate. The “forced on us” argument is ridiculous, but the feeling of hate these people feel is real but forced on them by fascist narratives
You go Louis Theroux on them, instead of answering questions, you keep asking them questions until they get stuck and are forced to actually think for once rather than repeat their scripts
exhaust corrupted cache
force cache miss
force logic
And why is it you think that?
They are a genocidal org. They don’t care.
How does one defend against such framing?
Real life local activism.
It’s political. That’s not the problem. The problem is people saying “politics are unpleasant so we should never discuss them. It’s much more pleasant to just not participate in political discussion. You disagree with me on something? Well that’s now political and it’s rude for you not to shut up about it and just let me have my way. “
Don’t concern yourself with wether something is considered political. Focus on why political discussion is taboo. That’s the real danger.
It represents deviation from the insisted “norm” which defies what is told to you is the “correct” order and they will insist that that is violence to cover the actual violence they use to keep people in line.

My hatred for the BBC grows with each passing day. I could understand (using their twisted logic) if they were trans pride pins, given their BBC’s status as TERF island enablers, but they were a progress pride and bisexual flag.
They still haven’t forgotten they lost that culture war in their eyes. After this “war on trans” they are hoping to redo the “war on gays” again
A spokesperson for ITV Studios said: “University Challenge is an entertainment quiz show and is made in accordance with the BBC Editorial Guidelines requirements for impartiality.”
If you’re impartial between people who just want to live their life and people who want to eradicate them, you’re not being impartial.
The BBC is run by dogshit humans.
Labour and Reform: destroy BBC, force them to provide cover for the establishment and then privatise it!
We need jungle I’m afraid
So they record people, alter the recording, and televise the alterned version, without telling the audience about the change. The show isn’t fiction. How’s this not fraud?
The UK should’ve stayed a republic during the Cromwell times. The British monarchy will fall, I’ll tell ya.
I mean, after doing a genocide Cromwell declared his son his political heir… I don’t disagree but it just never had a chance because British people barely knew what a republic was. They literally just had classical-inspired vibes about it.
No joke, I wrote a paper in college that sourced an Enlightenment era English writer who claimed that the English state was a monarchal republic because the citizens had more rights than the French.
As someone who’s ancestors were exiled for siding with Cromwell I agree. But also I wish to purge the monarchist filth from Britain.
Well, Cromwell the issue was that it was an extremist fascist coup by a religious extremist
He literally banned parties, and advocated that instead everyone must go to church and make good with god
End the BBC.
It isn’t only America doing this shit.
Sadly it is beyond one country.
The BBC has always been propagandistic, though in a generally posh way using framing and cherry picking rather than the in-your-face way of the likes of Fox News.
It’s just that it used to be mainly Jingoism (visible when comparing their coverage of International News and the participation of British figures in international gatherings, with that of channels in other countries), some amount of Know Your Place and Look Up To Your Betters, and, of course, Eternal Love For The Royals (or, more broadly, Our Political And Social System Is Perfect).
Meanwhile man award freedom of the beeb for dressing as giant poppy.
Sadly, this supports trump’s claim.
