Alright Midwest peeps let’s settle this heated debate.
Pop or Soda?
- Whimseymimple ( @Whimseymimple@beehaw.org ) English7•1 year ago
Soda, always and forever. (I even converted friends and my spouse from “pop.”)
Booooo!!! They are traitors!! Lol
- jimrob4 ( @jimrob4@midwest.social ) English7•1 year ago
Pop
- FistfulOfBottlecaps [Nebraska] ( @FistfulOfBottlecaps@midwest.social ) English6•1 year ago
So we’re fighting already? lmao
Yes, yes we are. The lines have been drawn! lol
- FistfulOfBottlecaps [Nebraska] ( @FistfulOfBottlecaps@midwest.social ) English2•1 year ago
Mark me down for ‘soda’ then I guess.
- Tink ( @Iamtink@midwest.social ) English6•1 year ago
Michigander here - Pop.
- tmobilemod ( @tmobilemod@lemmy.ml ) English6•1 year ago
Soda always.
- Theroddd he/him/his ( @Theroddd@beehaw.org ) English2•1 year ago
points shame them, shame them! Take that soda silliness back to Boston. points again shame shaaaaaame. -
BOOO this person!!! jk. Do you live in the midwest? If so which state? Curious to see where the preference might change.
- planetaryprotection ( @planetaryprotection@lemmy.ml ) English7•1 year ago
Also soda for me. I grew up in the big red MO/IL bubble.
- Whimseymimple ( @Whimseymimple@beehaw.org ) English3•1 year ago
Same! I grew up in the Midwest “soda” bubble as well, in Illinois.
- elchaderino ( @elchaderino@midwest.social ) English2•1 year ago
Me too. I now live in “everything is a Coke” country (TX) and have adopted that
Interesting graphic thanks! Though I’m curious how they figured this out because the area around Columbus, Ohio has a little red with blue and I don’t think I’ve heard anyone call it soda here.
- SlamDrag ( @SlamDrag@beehaw.org ) English1•1 year ago
Same, grew up in MN suburbs.
- MrFrobozz [Iowa] ( @MrFrobozz@midwest.social ) English5•1 year ago
I say soda, but everyone around me says pop.
I’m in Iowa. Does Lemmy support flair?
- seahorse [Ohio] ( @seahorse@midwest.social ) English5•1 year ago
We don’t have flair yet.
- MrFrobozz [Iowa] ( @MrFrobozz@midwest.social ) English3•1 year ago
Hopefully that feature comes. A server for Midwest is pretty neat, but having an Iowa flair would save me from feeling the need to say that I’m in Iowa each time something like this comes up.
- seahorse [Ohio] ( @seahorse@midwest.social ) English3•1 year ago
Yeah, I get that. What you could do if you wanted in the meantime is change your display name to be “MrFrobozz (Iowa)”.
- MrFrobozz [Iowa] ( @MrFrobozz@midwest.social ) English2•1 year ago
Good idea! I haven’t spent much time looking through the settings in Lemmy yet. Got it updated. Thanks!
- AbsentApe ( @AbsentApe@midwest.social ) English5•1 year ago
Soda born and raised.
- doinghumanthings ( @doinghumanthings@midwest.social ) English5•1 year ago
Pop (in Illinois)
- Ascrod ( @Ascrod@midwest.social ) English4•1 year ago
I knew a lot of folks in southern Indiana who said Coke.
Personally I prefer soda.
- GADG3Tm ( @Gadg3tm@midwest.social ) English1•1 year ago
Alabama here, we say coke even though I can’t stand coke
- downhomechunk ( @downhomechunk@midwest.social ) English4•1 year ago
Pop usually. Sometimes I say soda pop ironically. My wife, another lifetime Chicagoan, is teaching our daughter to say soda. And to say living room instead of front room.
- TurtleTourParty ( @TurtleTourParty@midwest.social ) English5•1 year ago
Your daughter should be asking for a pop in da frunchroom!
- downhomechunk ( @downhomechunk@midwest.social ) English2•1 year ago
Right?
- JackFromWisconsin ( @JackFromWisconsin@midwest.social ) English4•1 year ago
I say soda. I feel it’s about split 50/50 in my local area
Ohio - Pop all the way. GTFO with that soda garbage.
- DarraignTheSane ( @Darraign@midwest.social ) English4•1 year ago
Soda. Although, when I was a kid and if you traveled out far enough into the boonies you’d hear people call it “sodie-pop”, so… 🤷♂️
- Whimseymimple ( @Whimseymimple@beehaw.org ) English2•1 year ago
My mom uses that one some times, but she spent some formative childhood years in Missouri so I blame that. ;)
- DarraignTheSane ( @Darraign@midwest.social ) English2•1 year ago
Yup. Could just be a Missouri boonies thing, don’t know.
oh the boonies gotta love em. Lol I swear they have their own language sometimes lol
- onebignothingatall ( @onebignothingatall@midwest.social ) English4•1 year ago
Pop, always. My mom who grew up in Chicago proper says soda, the heathen.
- bquintb ( @bquintb@midwest.social ) English4•1 year ago
Well it sure ain’t coke!
