Alright Midwest peeps let’s settle this heated debate.
Pop or Soda?
jimrob4 ( @jimrob4@midwest.social ) English7•1 year agoPop
Whimseymimple ( @Whimseymimple@beehaw.org ) English7•1 year agoSoda, always and forever. (I even converted friends and my spouse from “pop.”)
Booooo!!! They are traitors!! Lol
tmobilemod ( @tmobilemod@lemmy.ml ) English6•1 year agoSoda always.
BOOO this person!!! jk. Do you live in the midwest? If so which state? Curious to see where the preference might change.
planetaryprotection ( @planetaryprotection@lemmy.ml ) English7•1 year agoAlso soda for me. I grew up in the big red MO/IL bubble.
Whimseymimple ( @Whimseymimple@beehaw.org ) English3•1 year agoSame! I grew up in the Midwest “soda” bubble as well, in Illinois.
elchaderino ( @elchaderino@midwest.social ) English2•1 year agoMe too. I now live in “everything is a Coke” country (TX) and have adopted that
Interesting graphic thanks! Though I’m curious how they figured this out because the area around Columbus, Ohio has a little red with blue and I don’t think I’ve heard anyone call it soda here.
Theroddd he/him/his ( @Theroddd@beehaw.org ) English2•1 year agopoints shame them, shame them! Take that soda silliness back to Boston. points again shame shaaaaaame. -
SlamDrag ( @SlamDrag@beehaw.org ) English1•1 year agoSame, grew up in MN suburbs.
FistfulOfBottlecaps [Nebraska] ( @FistfulOfBottlecaps@midwest.social ) English6•1 year agoSo we’re fighting already? lmao
Yes, yes we are. The lines have been drawn! lol
FistfulOfBottlecaps [Nebraska] ( @FistfulOfBottlecaps@midwest.social ) English2•1 year agoMark me down for ‘soda’ then I guess.
Tink ( @Iamtink@midwest.social ) English6•1 year agoMichigander here - Pop.
AbsentApe ( @AbsentApe@midwest.social ) English5•1 year agoSoda born and raised.
doinghumanthings ( @doinghumanthings@midwest.social ) English5•1 year agoPop (in Illinois)
MrFrobozz [Iowa] ( @MrFrobozz@midwest.social ) English5•1 year agoI say soda, but everyone around me says pop.
I’m in Iowa. Does Lemmy support flair?
seahorse [Ohio] ( @seahorse@midwest.social ) English5•1 year agoWe don’t have flair yet.
MrFrobozz [Iowa] ( @MrFrobozz@midwest.social ) English3•1 year agoHopefully that feature comes. A server for Midwest is pretty neat, but having an Iowa flair would save me from feeling the need to say that I’m in Iowa each time something like this comes up.
seahorse [Ohio] ( @seahorse@midwest.social ) English3•1 year agoYeah, I get that. What you could do if you wanted in the meantime is change your display name to be “MrFrobozz (Iowa)”.
MrFrobozz [Iowa] ( @MrFrobozz@midwest.social ) English2•1 year agoGood idea! I haven’t spent much time looking through the settings in Lemmy yet. Got it updated. Thanks!
theksepyro ( @theksepyro@midwest.social ) English4•1 year agoI say soda but everyone around me says pop and tells me I sound pretentious
downhomechunk [chicago] ( @downhomechunk@midwest.social ) English4•1 year agoPop usually. Sometimes I say soda pop ironically. My wife, another lifetime Chicagoan, is teaching our daughter to say soda. And to say living room instead of front room.
TurtleTourParty ( @TurtleTourParty@midwest.social ) English5•1 year agoYour daughter should be asking for a pop in da frunchroom!
downhomechunk [chicago] ( @downhomechunk@midwest.social ) English2•1 year agoRight?
CrayonMaster ( @CrayonMaster@midwest.social ) English4•1 year agoPop in iowa
JackFromWisconsin ( @JackFromWisconsin@midwest.social ) English4•1 year agoI say soda. I feel it’s about split 50/50 in my local area
Ohio - Pop all the way. GTFO with that soda garbage.
Ascrod ( @Ascrod@midwest.social ) English4•1 year agoI knew a lot of folks in southern Indiana who said Coke.
Personally I prefer soda.
GADG3Tm ( @Gadg3tm@midwest.social ) English1•1 year agoAlabama here, we say coke even though I can’t stand coke
Type 1 [Missouri] ( @Type1@midwest.social ) English4•1 year agoSTL: “soda” or “sodie”
