cnnrduncan ( @cnnrduncan@beehaw.org ) English2•1 year ago99.9% of farms that keep animals that they “treat like family” end up killing the animals when they’re still pretty young compared to how long they can live.
The farmer’s wife is worried that the farmer is actually going to treat their family like the animals they farm.
mdwhite999 ( @mdwhite999@vlemmy.net ) English2•1 year agoOh. I took it that the farmer had been sleeping with the animals this treating them like his wife.
niartenyaw ( @niartenyaw@midwest.social ) English1•1 year agothe farmer saying he treats the animals like family, which one might imply means he treats them well. but his family has to secretly run away from him due to abuse (insinuated by the wife quickly leaving with the kids). this mean he probably also abuses the animals, which is opposite of the implied meaning.
RiddleMeWhy ( @RiddleMeeWhy@lemm.ee ) English1•1 year agoPretty sure it’s less about abuse, and more the fact that the animals are slaughtered. He says he treats the animals like family, that implies he will also kill and eat his family at some point…
niartenyaw ( @niartenyaw@midwest.social ) English1•1 year agoif it said something like “Farmer: i treat my family like my animals” then i would agree with your interpretation that his family now thinks they will be slaughtered. but it being flipped changes the meaning for me
