Lt_Cdr_Data ( @Lt_Cdr_Data@discuss.tchncs.de ) 2•10 months agoWhich should have been the expected response. Extremism can only ever create more extremism on the other end of the spectrum.
The only thing those street gluers achieve is the exact opposite of their goal.
Nalivai ( @Nalivai@discuss.tchncs.de ) 5•10 months agoMurdering the civilization by knowingly and willingly create conditions for climate change: normal behaviour, good, commendable.
Public non-violent protests against that: extremism, bad, scary.
Tigbitties ( @Tigbitties@kbin.social ) 40•10 months agoI love civil disobedience. Go break shit.
marco ( @marco@beehaw.org ) English15•10 months agoThe “necessity defense” stuff: I tried all the other avenues and nothing happened, I had to turn off this oil pipeline.
Titan ( @Titan@beehaw.org ) 26•10 months ago“It’s people doing things and caring that annoys me”
snowbell ( @snowbell@beehaw.org ) English6•10 months agoExcept they aren’t actually doing anything. They should go shut down a factory or something.
BNE ( @BNE@lemmy.blahaj.zone ) English10•10 months agoDiversity of tactics. There’s no point in pissing on other people’s praxis when you have the capacity and space to organise your own.
Want harder action? Find a pipeline. Blockade a port.
Want to educate people about actions and how to get involved? Organise a street march and equip people with rhetoric to help turn the tide against fossil fuel astroturfing.
Just do something.
They are - which means they’re ahead.
Titan ( @Titan@beehaw.org ) 8•10 months agoHave you been living under a rock?? They’ve been doing that for ages and keep getting arrested
snowbell ( @snowbell@beehaw.org ) English1•10 months agoYes, I have been living under a rock. It is nice and cozy down here.
Titan ( @Titan@beehaw.org ) 2•10 months agoFigured
explodicle ( @explodicle@local106.com ) English6•10 months agoThat’s what they’ve been trying for years, and we don’t hear much about it because they’re quietly arrested.
don ( @don@lemm.ee ) 13•10 months agoIf sticking heads in sand was an Olympic sport, climate change deniers would consistently take home 100 kg antimatter trophies.
Nowhereman ( @lemmy@lemmy.stonansh.org ) English4•10 months agoIf you believe there is anything you can do about this. Then you are naive. There are almost eight billion of us. We have an immense industry. People not worrying about things like that is normal. Because they are to busy feeding there children. Trying to live a little. Also why do people think that you can stop climate change. The dice has been rolled. Alea iacta est.
BNE ( @BNE@lemmy.blahaj.zone ) English11•10 months agoStop with the black pill nonsense. There’s plenty we can do. Get active, get amongst it, break unjust laws.
Lay down and rot somewhere else.
Nowhereman ( @lemmy@lemmy.stonansh.org ) English1•10 months agoNo need to be offensive
Titan ( @Titan@beehaw.org ) 4•10 months agoNo need to be offended
BNE ( @BNE@lemmy.blahaj.zone ) English2•10 months agoDude. The world is being killed and the people killing it have names and addresses. This is not a untouchable force of nature causing our homes to flood and burn while the ecosystems that allow us to farm collapse.
You have agency. Get angry, channel it and get active.
Nowhereman ( @lemmy@lemmy.stonansh.org ) English1•10 months agoYes they have names and adresses. They are - WE
BNE ( @BNE@lemmy.blahaj.zone ) English2•10 months agoYes but also wise up - we’re not the same as Exxon Mobil or Rio Tinto. We individually need to make our changes, absolutely - but they won’t unless we force them to do so and they dwarf us in output to an inhuman degree.
Simply - we need to stop their machines in a very literal sense. They’ve already shown that dialogue and scientific reasoning is an utterly useless vehicle for change in the face of their organisations - so we need to start speaking in languages they understand. Remove their ability to function. Direct action is the answer to the question.
intrepid ( @intrepid@lemmy.ca ) 4•10 months agoIt has become fashionable for some to take a defeatist condescending stance like this when it comes to issues that affect everyone. If you think it makes you look smart, it doesn’t. These are pressing issues and people have to take action. If you don’t want to, go ahead and disappear. But don’t talk down to those who are and those who are calling for it.
Nowhereman ( @lemmy@lemmy.stonansh.org ) English1•10 months agoIt’s my opinion. Has nothing to do with talking down. I genuinly don’t believe there is anything we can do.
