Hundun ( @Hundun@beehaw.org ) 24•9 months agoDoes everyone have this one friend, who instead of typing out one message, splits their thoughts into 6-32 smaller messages sent in quick succession?
Also, I wish there was a way to throttle or debounce notifications on my phone.
I used to be that friend, then I stopped. Learned to put order in my thoughts before sharing them. If not out of self respect, at least out of respect for my friends.
Hundun ( @Hundun@beehaw.org ) 7•9 months agoI genuinely like this about you now
Thanks, that’ll give me a bit of a pep in my step!
Navigate ( @Navigate@partizle.com ) English7•9 months agoI don’t know why in 2023 we still can’t debounce notifications. It should be simple to say if I get 3 messages in the same conversation in 120 seconds, silence the conversation for an hour.
Polar ( @Polar@lemmy.ca ) 2•9 months agoAnd people like you wonder why you have no friends lmao.
“If my friends message me too much, silence them for an hour”.
Navigate ( @Navigate@partizle.com ) English3•9 months agoI’m in group chats that often devolve into 2-3 talking about something between themselves. While I’m busy with other things I’m not interested in being distracted every single time something is said because I think the notification might be something that requires attention. Once I have some free time I may be interested in going back to see what was said, but if I know they’re going off and I don’t want to hear about it at the moment I’d like the conversation to automatically mute for a short period of time.
The assumption is that by that point I am aware of the messages and have chosen to ignore them for the time being. There is no need to notify me because I’ve already been notified
Hundun ( @Hundun@beehaw.org ) 2•9 months agoWhat do you mean, “people like you”?
bleistift2 ( @bleistift2@feddit.de ) English6•9 months ago“Hey, guess what, I got free text messages now.”
3 days later I contemplate blocking them.
WarmSoda ( @WarmSoda@lemm.ee ) 3•9 months agoI do it right back to them

Bearbi3 ( @Bearbi3@lemm.ee ) 20•9 months agoYesterday I got called by my dentist, my cat’s vet, an apartment I had emailed inquiring for an interview. All within 5 minutes of each other! Talk about anxiety overload.
Discover5164 ( @Discover5164@lemm.ee ) 15•9 months agoit’s either 3 things at the same time or nothing for 4 hours
GissaMittJobb ( @GissaMittJobb@lemmy.ml ) 14•9 months agoThe whole point of text messages are that they are asynchronous - you don’t actually have to answer them right away, take your time.
Anyone in need of an immediate answer should choose a synchronous mode of communication.
ahto ( @ahto@feddit.de ) 7•9 months agoTo add to that: Configure your notifications. Anything that isn’t urgent doesn’t need to vibrate or make a sound. It can just sit there until you look at your phone. Also, use do not disturb for things like work.

jetsetdorito ( @jetsetdorito@lemm.ee ) 7•9 months agowhen I get emails from 2 PMs at once
littlecolt ( @littlecolt@lemm.ee ) 6•9 months agoI take chats for customer service. We’re expected to help two people at the same time. This is me when two people who work from home lost internet at the same time so they’re in crisis and as ending message after message and won’t follow directions because they’re desperately trying anything to get back online because they could get fired.
The cynic in me is like “this is karma for the previous 3 times you told your boss the internet was down when it wasn’t.”
