  • Look, man, I have been in writing groups and classes with people of all ages and skill levels. I have read some truly horrendous stories. Is the infinite word predictive machine going to write a better story than the worst, least skillful writer? Easily. Is it going to produce a better story than some of the more skillful writers? Absolutely not.

Worth noting also, I’m not saying someone who is noted for selling a lot of books, or even someone in an MFA program for writing. I am saying, LLMs are unlikely to produce a better work than me, and I am just some guy who is pretty skilled and practiced at writing. Maybe the one or two most skilled in a group of hobbyists who meet and share feedback and try to get better.

AI is always going to shoot for the absolute middle in terms of quality, and can definitionally produce nothing new or innovative.

  • I think this answer varies depending on how old you are. A 16 year old asking for dating advice is different from a 25 year old is different from a 34 year old.

When I was in my 20s I did a lot of sleeping around on apps. I had some personal tragedy, and being a slut was a way toxicly masculine society approved of a man expressing grief, especially since the hellscape of private insurance meant that it was a few years til I could afford to speak to a therapist.

I learned a lot of harsh lessons on apps. People will ghost you for no reason, even after a few weeks of sleeping together. Maybe you said something you didn’t think about, maybe they got a better offer, maybe it has nothing to do with you. That’s if you’re lucky, like I was, and got matches. The algorithm is harsh also, and these things become skinner boxes for incels (its no mistake the concept of “sexual market value” arose from the generation who learned courtship on these things). You take it too personal, or start looking at this system as a game to be optimized, and your already lost. I also callously ghosted some people, especially when they got too close. Maybe these were good fit.

In any case you learn to pick yourself up and move on. But you also learn to not to get too attached or invested. Which is obviously not a good lesson when it comes to relationships. Still there are some good lessons. In your 20s, you have to invest in yourself as a person. You’ll go to school, sure, but sometimes your degree isn’t really proof you know how to do something. So get out there and learn to do something. An artform, sure, like an instrument, or dance, but also any hobby that is not being mediocre at video games and shouting at a screen until the wee hours. Plenty of girls like anime, or D&D, or other traditionally “geeky” hobbies. The biggest thing you can do to up your game is learn to cook. Cooking and Writing have ingratiated me to most of my partners.

Literally anything to put you in front of real human beings in a social context.

The other thing I will say is that you’re 20s is for finding out what works for you sexually. Do you want someone to hit you? Tickle your feet? Shove something into your urethra? Do you have preferences for specific ethnicities or sizes? Do you get sprung when you see a posterior of a certain size? These are things you need to know about yourself, before you can start screening for a prospective partner who can check these boxes.

If you are in your 30s or older, apps have nothing to offer you at all. You should know by now what you like and what you do not. You really shouldn’t be looking for hook ups, especially with partners ten to fifteen years your junior, (unless you just got divorced and you need to prove yourself you still have it… the apps will not validate you). That assumes the apps do what they advertise, which they do not. They are there to annoy you into paying for premium services. The gender imbalance on something like Tinder is 80-20 (in case you were wondering where the incels got that number from) and its unknown how many of those are bots, or sex workers. Hook up apps, in this day and age, translate to a deluge of dick picks to any femme presenting user.

The last one I used was OKC, and that was in 2020. I was ghosted and I just decided I would rather be single. And I was, for about 5 years. I went on a few dates here and there but it didn’t go anywhere. I’m dating someone now and its going on 6 months. I really happy.

So I guess the last thing to say is, just learn to be okay being single. Keep accumulating experience, both in sexual matters and in life, and just understand that you might just be single and that’s okay. When the right one comes, you’ll know.

  • I think both things are true. Donald Trump has decided thousands and thousands of lives are worth the sacrifice, and the American populace has been conditioned by years and years of imperialism and war, in this region and others, to value those lives less, so of course they simply do not think about how those are real people. Donald Trump, subjected to those same forces, probably didn’t think that those lives were worth less consciously.

  • We did a one shot to test the system. My main impression is tied to the 2d12 fear and hope system. I like how combat flowed, but my issue was that it was too swingy; the player phases ends after someone rolls with fear for the first time, whether or not everyone has had a turn. This responds to theater kid energy, where your most outgoing players are fighting for the spotlight. As an experiment, I sat back and didn’t jockey for a turn. I didn’t get one for two rounds (which I consider to be unacceptable). For players who are Rule Players, this could be just as bad, as a first order optimal strategy might be to allow someone to go first to stack buffs or de buffs or whatever, so it means that if that person consistently misses, the same PCs are consistently missing their turns. I know that its unlikely, but its unacceptable that this is part of the range.

I really liked the fear and hope points specifically. A bad guy currency that the players generate is pretty sick. Imagine in a dnd alike, if a crit failure meant you just failed, and the DM got a fear point. All kinds of things you could do.

  • possibly? Being a liberal is the default where I live. Its generally considered the opposite of “conservative.” I give liberals (in the US politics sense) a bit more grace than most leftists. It is as far left as most people consider “allowable” in the US. They don’t hold very many abhorrent social opinions; they are quite supportive of queer rights, they volunteer at soup kitchens with me, oppose nazis, are environmentally conscious, etc.

Their main issue is that they have never been taught to view the world differently. So they talk about environmentalism, and they get behind bike lanes and electric cars, but they cannot conceive of restructuring cities to make use of more public transportation, or say blowing up fossil fuel infrastructure in minecraft. They want to help the homeless, but they can’t imagine just housing people, they support shelters and clothing drives and the salvation army, and other stop gaps within the system. I’ve long since resigned myself to the fact that people who think what I think are rare, and even various other stripes of leftists (anarchists, syndicalists, MLs, etc) are all gonna be a vanishingly tiny minority. I don’t think most liberals are so far gone we can’t reach them.

(Unless you meant like, neo liberalism, with like Thatcherist and Reaganite austerity, in which case yeah, basically fascism).

  • For the same reason people fall into fascism. Capitalism is putting the screws to people. Rent is too high, food is too expensive, people are on a treadmill, and dissatisfaction hangs in the air like miasma. People are mad, and they don’t know at what. They sense something is rotten, they dont have the words. Fascism co-opts leftist talking points, but pulls a bait and switch with the Jews and migrants and whoever.

Tankies also start from this choking miasma, you look at Tankie propaganda, its compelling. The US commited genocide and war crimes, and is more racist than you know. Capitalists are terrible, yadda yadda you know it. Tankie propaganda also frames politics as a team sport. When you look at the US (or you can look at it as the “Nato Empire,” which can be an interesting way to think about it), as the ultimate evil, can be easy to see anyone opposing them as good or worth supporting.
