Never closing Steam eliminates some of these. I also bet there is a way to disable the steam ad pop-up, might have to put it in dev mode and open the console though. For example I used that to disable the birthdate prompt for mature games.
A better question might be “name a billionaire that does more good than harm to the world”? Although personally I think that’s an impossibility.

Sounds like your roommate doesn’t care about Facebook harvesting all of their data or end to end encryption. Signal is great and more people should use it. Anything owned by Facebook isn’t inherently untrustworthy.
I really like a lot of what’s being said here, anti-capitalism, sustainability and optimism for a better future are wonderful. However I feel like independence and autonomy are at odds with community, in order to accomplish many of the goals outlined we’re going to need more people working together than ever before. Given the earth’s population we’re going to need large scale efficient clean energy systems, much of which will need to be inner connected.

I’m really liking Memmy on iOS. It takes some inspiration from Apollo.
I’ve rewatched Wing more within the last 10 years and it has its flaws but it’s still pretty gripping. Great battle sequences and fun characters even if the plot doesn’t always make the most sense. Although you could say the same about some UC series and movies.
I like 08th MS Team a lot but I’m not sure if it’s the best place to start for the full Gundam experience.
Seed might be another possibility for a good starting place.
I’m using it less but In my experience the protests and people leaving have made Reddit worse. Which in my opinion is a good thing.
I agree with @entopicdrift’s comment, you’re good to go with the non-UC series.
You could start with the stand alone series that popularized Gundam in the west, Gundam Wing.
Crawl, and Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime are both great options.
