  • It’s basically just fueling your own ego as a result of a situation like this.

Every pitchfork mob situation is about ego stroking ultimately. It’'s outgrouping, them vs us. And people with prejudices find it just so perfect to spew their bullshit and get some validation. It’s why racists love yellow media.

I don’t know the truth in this situation and for all I know this guy (and his entire crew for that matter) could be horrible people. But to base that off of prejudice is childish, and I’m sad that it’s infecting beehaw.

  • Linus takes all criticism on LMG as a personal attack regardless of his involvemen

I mean, AFAIK he built that company off the ground - yes likely privileged, I saw a video where it’s mentioned he and his partner lived rent free in his dad’s house. And yes, likely not alone. But still.

Makes sense he’d see criticisms of the company as attacks that he needs to personally take on. It’s not the best approach, but totally understandable. Lots of people’s livelihoods at stake by now, too.

  • Maybe I am now in a bubble, in a safe space. Maybe. Screw everything else, I’m not leaving. I like it here. Real life is already stressful enough for me to be annoyed by people on Reddit.

I think reddit has, in a way, the worst of real and digital worlds. As in the real world, there’s a lot of people who react, let’s say, not nicely; the digital angle provides anonimity and distance, which emboldens people. Combined with the fact that the top upvoted comments in reddit tend to be non sequitur jokes, and you get a lot of people trying to one up each other in their snarkiness.

  • I think you’re flanderizing a very real issue (not feeling comfortable sharing a space with “the others”) and at the same time lumping a whole lot of people in a wide spectrum into the very edge of that spectrum.

Also, why is “American” politics the default? The left/right thing is worldwide, both in concept and as a real thing right now.

I’m not arguing for tolerance for the intolerant, and it pains me to have to clearly state this. I am arguing for a little empathy towards non radicalized people that lean conservative. “There but for the grace of God go I”, you know?
