  • I recently bought a compatible non-OEM battery for a very old laptop as the original battery was completely shot and it would only work plugged in, and it really has made it usable again. I guess there’s always the risk that it has been sat on a shelf for a while, but if the price isn’t bad and you can afford to, I think it’s probably worth giving it a go given how degraded your current battery is.

Always worth seeing if there’s an online store with a decent return policy if you’re concerned about getting a dud, rather than somewhere like eBay!

Edit: I definitely understand your feelings about the wastefulness of laptops though, but at least a replacement battery is likely to keep the laptop going for longer.

  • I have mixed feelings. I don’t mind the slower pace currently, though very much want more active communities here so more people feel there is a decent alternative to reddit. The more communities that people see inactive when they join, the more likely people will give up on Lemmy.

However, I agree with those who say it’s important for people who want to see Lemmy succeed to contribute by commenting and making posts. I was a lurker on reddit, but we can’t treat Lemmy at such an early stage in the same way as a website with a large and established userbase.

  • I’ve currently settled with Liftoff. I got very used to Jerboa and was perfectly happy with it, but the last few updates broke it to the point of unusability for me.

Liftoff isn’t perfect, though its pretty good. My biggest gripe is that as far as I can tell there’s no button to go straight to the top of the feed, which is really annoying when you’ve been scrolling for ages and have to scroll all the way back up. Hopefully that will be added soon.
