Just by checking https://lemmy.ml/communities one can see the most popular communities of lemmy.ml. The plan here is to list all the alternatives for those from other instances. One can also suggest alternatives to be added here and I update this living document.
Community for all jibber-jabber. As this is a hard-coded community for every instance, we may get this doing something useful.
Meta-discussion regarding the instance !meta@sopuli.xyz
Yhteisö kaikenlaiselle pälätykselle. Koska tämä on kovakoodattu yhteisö jokaiselle instanssille, voimme tehdä tällä ehkä jotain hyödyllistä.
Instanssia koskeva metakeskustelu !meta@sopuli.xyz
if this list is still being updated, we just started up a new instance at forum.dxcomplex.com. we’ve got:
!music@forum.dxcomplex.com
!gaming@forum.dxcomplex.com
!art@forum.dxcomplex.com
!technology@forum.dxcomplex.com
!general@forum.dxcomplex.com (catch all for anything/everything else)
Our community in general has a slight DIY and/or retro slant to it but you can discuss whatever within the limits of the rules
I’m very new to Lemmy and trying to find some interesting and live communities. I found this list and it is not good at all. Check !memes@lemmy.ca - 0 posts. Check other one - 1 post. Check another one - someone reposts links from twitter. That is not helpful list.
The purpose of this list is simply to collect alternative communities on different Lemmy instances, not to filter them out by popularity or a similar metric.
Is https://heapoverflow.ml gone or just momentarily down? If gone it might be good to update this great posting 😁
@QuentinCallaghan For libre culture I found !libre
It doesn’t really seem active tho.
Don’t how up to date this is, but here are a few communities:
!usa@midwest.social
!gaming@midwest.social
Dope thank you
Should we nominate !fuckcars@lemmy.ml to find an alternative? seems pretty active
https://lemmygrad.ml/c/shitliberalssay, shit fascists say, shit patsocs say, leftist infighting, shit soc dems say, shit white people say, shit anarchists say, shit etc says --> https://lemmy.ca/c/armchairsocialist mostly
communism --> !socialism@midwest.social
late stage capitalism, boring dystopia, futurology, collapse --> https://mander.xyz/c/aboringdystopia

Nice list.
NRSK.no is a rather new Norwegian instance, and it looks like we’re going for mostly Norwegian language posts. One community dedicated to content in English is Norway, where everybody is welcome to both subscribe and post.
Our Meta-community is Main.
Additional Privacy --> privacy@community.nicfab.it,privacy@lemmygrad.ml,privacy@wolfballs.com,privacy@nrsk.no
Why can’t I follow @privacy@lemmygrad.ml and @privacy@wolfballs.com from my instance from? The other two worked…

aaaah… Thank you very much! Now I see.
So it’s not forbidden - or let’s say frowned upon - to make an account on each instance?
deleted by creator
good point. I see it the same way.
Do you know an instance that is perfectly made for this - not blocking anyone at all?

thanks ;)
Pretty sure we’re not doing lemmgygrad since it’s the problems of lemmy.ml x10 and wolfballs is far right
Dude I Can’t get in to wolf balls I’ve tried but I never receive the email verification
They’re both legitimate privacy instances and part of the lemmyverse, is it a proper list if it doesn’t give all the alternatives? Up to the maintainer.

new finds:
https://lemmy.ca/c/anarchism
https://lemmy.ca/c/fuckcars
https://lemmy.ml/c/green has 1.45k subscribers - beehaw: https://beehaw.org/c/environment, also slrpnk.net as a whole.
Once one of these get big enough, not a bad idea to make those on other instances. In case the instance goes down, admin goes rogue etc.
